I’m a causal follower of this group. I don’t post because frankly it’s a thread about company guys making over 100k. I’m not a company driver. So I’m irrelevant. I don’t think any one in here is bull ####ing. I think most are hustlers and 75% of otr guys frankly are not. I also don’t think every driver deserves to make 100. A lot of them are overpaid as it is.

If someone likes staying out on the road for long periods that is great. I personally don’t want to be gone more than a night or two at a time but everyone is different. Some truckload guys I know who do very well have no desire to do any other type of work and that’s what they like. As others have stated if an experienced safe professional driver, doesn’t want to do truckload OTR freight there are many driving jobs that $100,000 is the low end and $150,000 and up is very doable. It is definitely a slower time to get one of those jobs now compared to a couple years ago, but they still exist and demand will come back eventually at those places not currently hiring. Usually many of the best paying jobs require some form of “paying your dues” working your way up the ladder with less than desirable work schedules and or load destinations. The good part about seniority based jobs is it gets better every year if you stick it out.

I may be wrong but I feel like @gentleroger went from an OTR Truckload guy to an LTL driver. Maybe he will give his perspective of the change.

I try to post receipts when possible to back up what I say, and you can see from the last check I posted that I absolutely run hard when I can. Worked nearly 74 hours to get that last check. But I also started over this year, so I don’t have tons of vacation and weekends off. As @Banker mentioned, I’m in a “pay your dues” type of situation, so I’m taking anything I can get while I work my way back up a seniority list.

    1. Not bashing anyone for making six figures. If you run hard you should get paid.
    2. QUESTIONING, it from my own perspective and experience out here and what I’ve seen out here talking to regular drivers.
    3. I agree Megas and budget carriers, you aren’t going to clear $100K no matter how much you stay out. They’re not structured that way on purpose.
    4. Also agree, many drivers are indeed lazy and don’t deserve $100k my sentiment on that was for anyone who runs at least average and LIVES, their life on the road should be making that. That’s my opinion.
    5. I am not a lazy driver. I drive hard, all the time, backhauls are usually loads not popular as they’re hot, down to the wire and I run them on time, push myself and get it there on time. I drive anywhere through anything without question. I have never turned down a load. Etc.

I did clear $100K this year, not complaining. I like where I work overall. BUT, aside from a a couple vacations, I only took a few days off here and there throughout the rest of the year to get to just above $100K. So this is why I brought it up. “How y’all clearing $100K -$140K driving 4-5 days a week AND taking 3-5 weeks off a year” as many suggested here. I’m genuinely wanting to know as a comparison of sorts to where I’m at. That’s all.

Bottom line, from my perspective, if you’re a good driver, run hard and have a good work ethic? I hope you’re making as much as possible.
