Thanks for the answers to my questions. I do appreciate it. I try to keep apprised of what "good" companies are offering for pay and benefits (after all, you never know when you may need to look for a new job).

The only thing I see lacking in this company (and correct me if I am wrong) is compensation for sick days, personal paid days off, holidays, and break down pay.

Other accessorial pay such as pay for EVERY stop and every drop/hook is also pretty commonplace.

The best carriers (usually union ltl companies or private carriers hauling their own products) offer the driver higher mileage pay and extra compensation for the above.

I believe even with the union give backs the pay offered is about .10 cpm higher than what Calex is currently offering.

I will keep Calex in mind if I should need an alternative driving job. Heck, if they raise their pay and bennies package up I may even be persuaded to apply sooner.

Hey JB, enjoy the time off, aside from the root canal. I do believe summer has set in in Florida, it's about 95 right now up in T town, the heat is just styphling, not so much humidity just pure heat, I can only imagine how hot it is down in your neck of the woods. Hopefully things are still going well for you over there, we're kind of getting in to our slow season right now which is never fun, just means more hours but it only goes for a few months, nothing like getting up at 2:30 am on a saturday to haul a load of leon counties finest municipal waste:biggrin_25521: But hey if it were easy everyone would be signing up, enough from me though, "keep the bugs off your glass and the bears off your #####"

hey rhino.. take the 295 in ri to 95s in mass... i believe its exit 2a that you want. should be route 1 south. take that around. go under the overpass. you will see a mobil on your right, turn right there. follow it around & take the 2nd entrance on the right. they open at 6am. to leave you go to the right. looks like you are going the wrong way but your not. follow it around & go under the overpass. after that, go left before going behind the building. stay in the left lane & will see the turn to get back on 1 north/95...
will take about 2 hrs to unload... piece count & driver verify

Just some observations about the people I work for:

    1) Our truck registrations are up for renewal on the 31st, so last week on my way back from the west coast we all got a message over the Peoplenet saying all the trucks have been renewed and that they mailed them to our homes. I got home Friday and my reggie was waiting for me. Some of you may say not a big thing but in actuality it is, this is a big nut to overcome every year. I wonder how many companies will have difficulties renewing their trucks.

    2) In speaking with the President of the company Wednesday, he spoke of the decision that was made about new equipment. They decided to order 25 of the new Volvo 780 with all Volvo components and super singles. It seems they had a very big issue with a Volvo truck, Cummins motor and Eaton transmission. Now the trucks are all Volvo components.

    3) I happen to notice that we had just a handful of empty trailers on the lot. I spoke to Jim & Mort in safety and found out why, we are so busy with freight that all the trailers are at various shippers getting loaded. Now that to me is pretty cool.

    4) I was also asked why I keep turning down a new truck. I told Jim in safety that as long as xx227 keeps carrying my happy rear end across the country with no problems, I'll stay in it as long as it's in the fleet.

    5) I'm not one to complain about little issues, but I did ask for a new mattress for my bunk. I got a message Friday that they got a new one waiting for me with my name on it.

These things I just brought up is part of the reason I enjoy working here. Plus the fact that after 9 months of working here I asked for an extra day off for the first time, not to play with the wife and dogs, but to get a root canal done on Tuesday. I'll be leaving on Wednesday. This might not be the "Perfect" job, but it sure meets my requirements and expectations.
