Well after hanging around here since Sept 06 and asking questions, doing lots of reading and research. I decided to apply for my first job in the trucking industry today. Early this morning I called the recruiters for Maverick and applied with them and began the process. I'm hoping that they hire me and send me to their CDL school. If not oh well, I'll still go to school this spring at a community college then apply for Tyson, Schneider or PAM. BUT, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Maverick. I've heard so much good about them and the 97% weekends at home was the clincher.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.
One small step...

well good luck, hope you get the job. Is there anything that worries you into thinking that they won't hire you?
-
no cdl, no exp. and just general worry. my MVR is clean, no criminal record at all, however I've had 2 jobs this past year, the one I'm in now is just a few weeks a way from laying off 200 of us.
-
well hopefully everything works out before you get laid off...companies generally are looking for the guys who work 3 or more jobs in year.....if your under 3 I think you have a chance of getting the job. having no tickets or criminal record is a big thing now days, and says a lot about a person.

Got off the phone with the Maverick recruiter earlier today. They seem to be stuck on when I was self employed. I had my own business in 04 and 05. I found and provided my 2004 P&L statement to them but I cannot find the one for 2005. This seems to be an obstacle with them. She said she's been working on this problem all day.
I thought that they could give me a form to fill out and have notarized or something but she said she would have to go talk to her manager and find out what to do next then call me back. So far she's not called me back.
The company I work for now, Franklin Electric, where I operate a CNC Lathe, did not give a rat's hair about paperwork from my business. I provided them my HS diploma, my Honorable Discharge from the Marines, filled out the application and they hired me. So far Maverick hasn't even asked for my HS diploma or my Honorable Discharge. -
Trucking companies are just really strict about stable employment history, that is why they are stuck on this issue. Self employed people always have a more difficult time when changing employment or getting a loan. Can't just call a number and ask if you worked there, don't they even have you send w-4's in? or something along that line? I'am sure once and hopefully this issue is resolved, then they will ask for the DD-214 and whatnot. If they don't, then it doesn't sound to good of a company, imagine all the dishonorables they would have working for them, I wouldn't want to work along the side of those types. Well good luck, I have know clue what you need to do, as I have never owned my own business, just experienced second hand what you people have to go thru.

Ok, last week I had to have a notarized letter from a non-family member stating I had a business in 2005, and then the letter had to be notarized. Well, apparently even though that was what Maverick wanted at the time it is now no longer sufficient. They didn't bother to call or notify me of this problem, I called them to check on my application status and of course I was denied. So I called the tax preparer in my former town and asked them if they could get me a copy of my 2005 P&L, fortunately they had a copy. So I called Maverick back and they said if I could get it to send it in and they would go from there. Also back to the notarized letter I had to fax the thing 3 times to them, they claim they never got it. Eventually had to scan it and email it and they claim to have received it that way.
So I had to drive 2 hours back to the town pick up the 2005 P&L. LUCKILY they did. So I scanned it and sent it in to Maverick. Now the way things have been going I wouldn't be a bit surprised if all the paperwork I turned in to them before has been lost or thrown out and I'll have to start all over.
Also I asked my recruiter if she needed a copy of my HS diploma or my honorable discharge 214. She said they didn't care about those things. Basically I'm left with the impression that a felon coming out of the pen then would have a better chance of driving for them than me. -
Good luck and remember to be safe.

sounds like your getting the run around......................

Ok, well getting that copy of my 2005 P&L worked, Maverick pre-hired me and my recruiter says I'm probably going to C1 school sometime in April. I'm looking forward to this career.
I will remember what I've learned here, about doing a good job and not complaining about anything. Like Scarecrow said keep your nose to the grind and it will pay off for you.
