I haven't been to it in awhile but two stand out to me, both in New Mexico. Clines Corner is a dump in the middle of nothing, and the dump in Roswell, I can't remember the name, it had no fuel when I was there and the place closed before midnight.

You should have told them you was coming...
-
You will not have that problem at the Roswell location anymore.
Heard they were closed 24 hours a day now. -
The TA off I-10 in Baldwin FL. What a roach motel. They were crawling down the wall in broad daylight in the restaurant. I've seen less garbage at landfills than in the parking lot. Not to mention the hole in the middle of the parking lot that would swallow a four-wheeler whole. I don't understand how TA's can be polar opposites. Some are dumps and some are immaculate. There are no "corporate" or "franchise" standards.
-
You are right about the TA's, all over the map. The one in Wheeler Ridge at the N end of the Grapevine is awesome, but many are dumps with surly employees... wierd..
-
I'll throw my vote for:
Walt Whitman in Philly
That dump on I90 heading out of Seattle before the hill.
Jolly Tx, I was walking into the store in a heavy rain and fell into a waist deep pothole.
That old Clark TS on I55 by Joliet, had enourmous Rats running around the lot at night. -
Those weren't rats, they were Joliet locals...
These posts remind me of a classic moment years ago when I was driving past that old 76 truck stop near Blight (Blythe), CA...
Some driver keyed up and asked if the food in the restaurant was any good...
The reply, given by an old hand: "Driver, the food in that restaurant is so bad that the flies took up a collection to buy a new screen door, c'mon..."
It was hilarious, and I never forgot the line---still use it to this day, in fact. -
Battle Creek, MI pilot at exit 104 on i94..oh god.
i was in that dump today, i was in the line going towards the pumps, i tried to ####### back into a parking spot so icould sneak out without blocking anything, ###### behind me tailgates me so i cant...#######...
And then you have the loves in marshall at 112...hah, i always try to stop at the loves unless im getting on 69 from the west.. -
TA in Jacksonville, FL (on I 10, exit 343) totally disgusting! Restaurant is gagolicious, didn't check out the showers, another driver said if you stink so bad you have to hang your head out the window, wait for the next stop...so we did....that was after we tried the restaurant. Montazuma lives in the kitchen and gets his revenge!
The Pilot in Jacksonville, Fl was nasty enough looking I didn't go in....
Silver Spur, Weslaco, TX....can't even begin to describe this one
Loves in Edinburg, TX...not up to par for Loves, but I suppose is up to par for the area.
Anything in West Memphis, Ar
Petros are now charging for most of the parking...at least the lizards aren't as frequent.
Citgo, Fordyce, Ar....although I was told this one would clean up it's act.
The food at the TA in Gibsonville, NC was bad..but she said it wasn't "normal" occurrance...I wondered about that, because there were very sparce customers.. -
When you were at that Pilot, were the parking lot lights working?
Reason I ask is that I was there about a month ago, got woken up by a shaking of the truck (not a violent jolt). Kinda put it out of my mind as I was asleep, but later decided to have a peek out the curtains. Saw the fender mirror was askew, so I got out to check. Lo and behold, a flatbed had scraped my fender (had to be a flat, as there were black tarp marks and a single deep scratch from a bungee hook, I assume. Van would've done a bunch more damage). The lights in the lot were all out...only the fuel island and main building lights were working. This was at 2130.
