When I was full time OTR and eating at the truck stops, I got to the point I had the restaurant menus memorized. I knew what to expect at the Flying J, Petro and T/A. Also knew which ones gave the best service. I bet I'm not alone and many of you have those menus memorized too.Is there not a truck stop that doesn't sell Chicken Fried Steak?? LOL
Weird, but it's been awhile since I last ate at a truck stop and I actually crave the food sometimes..........![]()

I know what you mean! LOL!!
I won't go into the chicken fried steak....I couldn't get that thru my blonde head one day and decided I would challenge the waitress about that! LOL!!!
I do crave an Omelet from the nearest Flying J from time to time. So it's not out of the ordinary for us to hop in the car at 5am and indulge a little now and then.
-
i've always called it "country fried steak"
goood stuff
what kills me is when a restraunt has "chicken fried chicken" on the menu. -
I was out in the truck about a month ago and the menu's are all still the same. The Flying J's buffet is still VERY predictable and has the same stuff on it all the time, every single week. My husband primarily runs New England (land O' no truck stops) so eating up there is usually wherever you can get a truck into.....it's a nice change. You get tired of trying to find something different to eat on the same old menu after a while. I've been to some truck stops and walked in to the restaurant only to turn around, head back to the truck and make a ham sandwich....
-
One of my co-workers told me the other day that the restaurant menus are all basically the same from stop to stop regardless of how they're branded. If I can, I'll be packing some sandwiches when I start driving.

it's been a while for me too as far as stopping at a truckstop. i crave bisquits and gravy. i crave omlette's. i crave that huge slice of ham, eggs, home fries, from the All American, in Doswell,Va.
what i had always "noticed" is that the menus are the same, and by week's end, i would have had everything from the menu at least once.
then the new week would start.................
you got me started..................
i want my bisquits and gravy now.....................:smt041

I know what' cha mean. Like I sometimes crave MRE's. Go figure.
-
MRE`s,man that brings back some memories.I`m just a poor country boy so my main diet is chicken(country)fried steak, eggs over hard, hashbrowns, grits(if done right) and of course, biscuits and gravy.Top that off with SWEET tea.:smt025

10-4 on the SWEET tea! I hate nothing more than going to a restaurant that doesn't have this available. Even worse is their reply of "We have unsweet, and u can just add the sugar yourself." Anyone who has even a basic knowledge of chemistry, or has ever drank sweet tea this way knows that once it's cold the sugar won't disolve as well and u end up with it being just right until the last few swallows which are more resemblant of syrup than tea!

You are sooo right about the grits... and the sweet tea!
