Is anyone else having problems getting their fuel route reopted? Ive been trying for 3 days now, keep getting the message that I have enough fuel onboard to complete dispatch please verify.
I tell them Im down to 1/8 or even 0 and they still cant get me reopted. i have to get to a truck stop, get them a comdata station code then they open it up for 50 gallons. LOL that doesnt get me very far. Im picking up another 1100 mile run up to Vermont at noon, I cant be stopping every 3-400 miles for fuel. This old Volvo they gave me only gets about 6 miles to the gallon, not to mention 45,000 lbs and the hills .....BigT

Can't really say I've had any problems like that. I called yesterday to get a closer fuel stop as I didn't think I would make the one they gave me. What they sent was what I was given before. Based on where I was, I figured that was going to be the only option so I went for it. When I got to the fuel stop 3 hours later, the needle was solidly on E. That was cutting it close! All back roads all the way there. There wasn't any place I could have stopped for fuel.

In your case, sorry, man. Don't know what to tell you. Maybe call them and explain the situation. I'm sure you've already done that though. Only other option is to suck it up for now and call your dm on monday.

Wow. Sounds like she is really on top of things. My dm would have no problem getting me reopted. Maybe you need to go over her head to the fleet manager. I've never had that kind of trouble, even when dealing with the afterhours/weekend crew.

I've only had a problem with reopting once, and that was because there was no stop closer than the one I had already been given.

This sounds like a problem specifically with your truck. And it needs to be fixed. So keep pestering until it is fixed. It is your DM's job to assist you with anything you need. If they cannot solve your problem themselves, they need to refer it to someone who can.

A couple years ago, I didn't get fuel routes at all. Whenever I needed fuel, I had to get a station code and get it authorized. However, that was back when DM's could authorize fuel themselves and they would always give me 300 gallons, so I could fill up. Even doing that could be a real PITA sometimes. Now they have to call onroad to get it authorized and can only do 50 gallons at a time. That's a major timewaster, and could even make you late if you're on a rush load. So get it fixed. It will be worth the nagging in the end.

It got fixed today somehow. I picked up my load in Owensboro, Ky going to Vermont and got 2 fuel stops in 983 miles go figure, I havent had even 1 scheduled in the last 1800 miles. Like you 1only, i had to get the comdata station code and get 50 gls at a time. It might have had something to do with what another swift driver told me while we were waiting to get loaded. My home terminal is Lancaster so he to me to address the qualcomm message like this Lancaster/Pheonix. etc.... need fuel.... it worked lol. Thanks for the responses....BigT

Feast or famine: you either don't get fuel stops when you need them, or you get so many you can pick and choose which stop you want to make.

I'd much rather have feast than famine.

Wow. I never had to get emergency fuel, but my DM was great about getting me good fuel stops. He was more careful about me having adequate fuel than I was I think.

I believe both of my tanks are 150's. You can track how many gallons you burn by playing with the wiper switches. when I burn 100 gall it shows 1/4 on my gauge. One of them is off! I alerted them once when making a 4 stop run. Told them at 5:30am I would need fuel by my second stop. They routed me to the Neenah terminal in Wisconsin when I was going from Milwaukee to Green Bay. I had done my third stop. I ran to #4 for 30 miles with the low fuel light on. I had 45 minutes to get from the last stop to a truck stop. I got there found out they didn't take Comdata. I pumped $20 of my own money in it so I had fuel for my 34hr reset. Plenty to run the Wabasto heater. When I got a preplan and roted to P&G 20 some miles. I kicked and scratched 'til the opened me up for 50 gal of emergency fuel. I had to call another T/S that took the card.

At first they had me go to the shipper and then go to Neenah and get 88gal. When I explained the situtaion the opened it up for 128 gallons! They didn't seem to understand.

One thing is for sure if you run out of fuel it is your fault!

My second stop was in Covington IN. They had me fuel there on my way to Albany Ga. Silly when I could have just grabbed I-65 in Chicago then down to Nashville to 24 and 75. They have a love affair with that Pilot for some reason. My routing was on all kinds of back roads that would have saved 40 miles and cost 3-4 hours longer to get there. Probably burn more fuel running all the small Indiana, and KY towns.
