What do I need to do in order to get my CDL. Go to Sec of State Office near me and the get the manuals and stuff to study,I know that, but what happens after that? I am from Michigan, so if anyone can help me out, I would really appreciate it.

If anyone has info on what training schools are available in Michigan, I could really use that information too.

Hi Speed,
Though I'm not from Michigan, I can tell you what I did. 1st, I did go, get, and study the manuals. I took the written test and got my cdl permit with an additional HazMat endorsement. All the while,I was lucky enough to ride with my husband for approx. a year and a half to familiarize myself with semi's. (Cause I'd never seen the inside of one.) Then I researched the driving schools in my state, and the financing available. I found an accredited one, and decided to pay cash, which we could afford. After my tenure at the school, I was prepared for and took the driving test administered by the state police. Then I had my license, went with a trainer (NOT my husband) for about a month... then I was done.
There are several drivers from Michigan that offer advice here, and I'm sure one will pick this up and offer more info for you.
Good luck in your quest. -
Search on Google for Licensed Truck Driver Training Schools Michigan only. You will get a list of 45 schools. I was familiar with Professional Driver Institute in New Buffalo, but have not seen them in a while. I see West Michigan CDL Inc., in Grandville every day. They look very professional, but check their tuition for the intense two -week course. Lansing Community College had a course, and their rigs could be seen many miles from Lansing and looking good.
