My brother is getting ready to graduate trucking school and I wanted to get him a couple of gifts to get started. I am going to get him a Wilson 5000 CB antenna and Cobra 29 ltd classic NW WX BT. I am also going to get him a Garmin Nuvi 465T GPS. I dont know anything about how good these are so I was hoping someone could help me out. Are these good quality gifts and if not could you recomment something else. Thank you very much in advance

Both are good equipment. Tell your brother DON'T trust ANY GPS. Many a driver have found this out AFTER they hit a bridge.

Hit a bridge ? OUCH ......

I have that gps and love it. Please remember it is a tool. One still needs to preplan using a good map. I've had the gps work wonders until approaching the drop. A lot of times a huge distribution center takes up many addresses. One of the best planning tools is the phone call for p/u drop times and directions. Your brother will learn lessons that take time. Getting in a big hurry is trouble at first. Speed comes with experience. Best of luck.

I always wanted to try that Nuvi 465 but didnt want to pay nearly 400 bucks for a GPS regardless of the fact that its built for trucks. We had the Nuvi 255 which worked great, but it was intended for a car. Now we have the Nuvi 1300 (which is still designed for cars)because the other one started freezing up on us.
But like the above poster said, every GPS should be used as a tool and with respect.
As far as the CB goes, any CB will work good as long as you have a good anenna setup with the ability to tune the antenna to the radio. -
With gifts like those I think I need to marry his sister or something to get into that family. Those are a lot of nice toys. But all joking aside. I would make sure he gets a good motor carriers atlas. Such as the Rand McNally Spiral Bound and Laminated. Those are way better then any GPS. Cause that GPS will give you what route it wants and sometimes there is a better way. It is a tool and must be treated as one. ESPECIALLY when you get into these towns. I went to one place 3 times and each time had to take a different route cause the town kept adding more no truck signs all over the place.
