Is Roehl a good trucking company

If Roehl would have been hiring from my area, I probably would have gone with them.

 

i start with them on monday so ill let you know later. but the lady ive delt with has been nice and have told me everything i need to know so far and just set me up with a rental to drive there instead of a bus so thats good on there part.

 

They paying for it too?

 

Main complaint i had was that they micro manage drivers. Constantly about ur mpg's and routing drivers thru the woods to avoid toll roads. Plus I had no interest in going to canada. They are not that bad a place to start,it just got to me after awhile.

 

yeah they paid for it. i just have to cover gas and tolls and they will reimburse later. i think i can handle being looked over for a while seeing how i have never done this. but like you said it probably will get to me also but we will see how it goes.

 

Roehl's great for beginners, once a driver knows what they're doing, even if they do what they do "The Roehl Way" (tm) they generally get irritated with Micro-Managing, which, it turns out, is the mystical 8th step. Otherwise Roehl seems to fail people when it comes to money, or Home time, (if you're a regional/ national driver) just like most other National Freight companies.

 

My husband is almost done with his training. So far they seem to want to make sure he is a safe member of the road. I'm just the wife sitting at home waiting for him to come home, but I love that I can log into the driver website and see what his paycheck will be when it is deposited. He is on the 14/7 crew so he will get the hometime he wants and two of the trainers he's had has been with the company for 11 years. If you do your resurch you'll find out Roehl is one of the few larger companies that pay practicle miles. I'm not all about having a OTR trucker for a husband so we did a months worth of resurch before he signed up with a company. Todd ended up hanging out in the Marshfield terminal while he waited for his trainer who had a bad run of luck at the shipper. The guys he talked to were very happy with the company. Bottom line is if he wants home time he'll want to sign up for the 14/7 or the 7/3~ 7/4. They are slip seaters and have to be back for the next guy to run. We are close enough that Todd drove and Roehl remburses us for the milliage. They also paid for a hotel while on a local run with a trainer who didn't have a condo sleeper when they ran out of driving hours twice. I'll let you know in a month or two if I have the same feelings.

 

I am also just a wife sitting at home waiting on my husband who started with Roehl in January 2010. He completed EVO3 in March and has been on his own since then. They have only messed with his home time once so far. We had asked for a change in home location because the kids and I were going to visit family in Virginia and Mike had requested to be sent there when it was time to go home that trip. The problem was that there was no freight at the time going that way. So he ended up staying out an extra week and then came home when we got back home. My husband has recieved a couple of tuition reimbursment payments and his three month raise. We are please with everything so far. It is still just an adjustment for me and the kids. This summer will be my first real test to manage two teenage boys without my at home support system. But we will manage. I have meet a few of the other drivers and feel like I know others through this forum. I think this company is an excellent place for a beginner....

 

I'm thinking of talking to Roehl about there schooling option, or I may end up going to an 8 week tech school class close to where I live (would include tandem and triples endorsement). I've read a lot of the posts on this site and from what I can see, Roehl seems like a good company. My only real concern is that they service the NE part of the country. I do not want to drive in the New York city area especially as a newbie. Anyone know if there's a way around that with Roehl?
