There's one problem with driving up yourself. When you get a truck, all the sudden your truck and car will both be in Marshfield and you live in Pennsylvania.

He'll have to drive back to Penn to get his CDL converted before they will send him out on the training.

What they normally do is let you drive your car home after your class room training then they'll pick you up at your house to start evo 1 training. When it's time for you to get your truck, they'll route you through Marshfield or Gary or wherever to pick up your truck. it works pretty good, actually.

This was exactly how it was explained to me.
So I'll be done on the 2nd of July and I imagine the DMV is closed on the 5th. That means it will likely take till the 6th to get the change-over completed. How long did it take you to hook up with a trainer Majestyk?
Oh so I found out some info I did not know before. They actually take you birth Certificate when you apply for the passport card. I have to get another copy since they want one at Roehl too. lol... They are so busy or the hours are while I'm working that I won't be able to go get it till the 9th of June or next Friday if I can escape from work. lol
Little over 2 weeks to go! Starting to feel a lot of anticipation.
I'll be watchin for all you Roehl drivers on my way down to Charlotte... How many will I actually see? -
Congrats Hindsy! Keep up the positive attitude go in eyes open and with lots of questions. Remember any one can bring you down but you stay positve!
don't second guess yourself either!
Do get your wife on here LOTS of support and she will need it w/you going OTR-love the ''Ladies Room'' great ideas for both of you, getting you set up, etc. Also read the packing list for newbies-in hind sight I think hubby and trainer would have been both ALOT better off but lucky for him he had a GREAT trainer! (stays in touch 1-2 x week still after 3 months) -
12 days to go...
Went on my trip to Charlotte this weekend and caught myself being like a little kid... looking at all the Big Trucks (or Biggies like I used to call them) cruising down the highway. Saw a few on Saturday on the way down and then a handful on the way home. Most on I64 and I77. Managed only to see one truck number 7642... Was that anyone here? Only saw vans and reefers no flats. Getting nervous and excited about everything!
Had a really good time roasting my rear off in the hot sun at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Good race, but not good for my driver... I'm a Dale Jr. fan...
Me and the fam have some busy work ahead of us here. Got to get moved out of our apartment and moved in with family. Moving the heavy stuff on the 12th. Got lots of help for that. Placing most in storage and some is heading to the wife's parents with her and the kids. Going to an interesting 2 weeks.kickin chicken Thanks this. -

Thanks for the posts Hindsy. I've got a thread on my current experience with Sage Truck Driving School here in Yadkinville, NC. I will be taking my Road Test next Thursday and then deciding on which trucking company to go with. The Roehl recruiter was in our school this afternoon and I'll have to say I was impressed. I know that it's a recruiter's job to get butts in their orientation class, so I have to do my own homework on the company. So far, they seem to be one of the better companies out there and their scores on SaferSys.org appear to support their quality training and equipment.
Keep up the posts and let us know how orientation goes. Good Luck! -
sage in my opinion was a great school i just recently passsed my road test. everyone who worked there had a great sense of humor and they made the 5 weeks sail by. i start at roehl monday, never talked to a recruiter except on the phone and she was nice and not pushy.

11 days and counting... The last few days at my current job are going to be a little crazy. Mainly because I am pre-planning my days. Get the storage unit next Monday and then I'll be wearing a path back and forth from my apartment to there... My wife's birthday is Tuesday, so I'll be blowing off my last day at work and spend it with her and the kids. Probably at least taking her to dinner. Wherever she chooses! Wednesday I'm going in to get my application stuff sent in for my passport card. Maybe I'll have it back by the time I go solo. I will also continue to take stuff to storage and tear apart our apartment getting the big stuff ready to move on Saturday. Then a good night's sleep and off to Marshfield in the morning on Sunday. Think I'm leaving early. Got 12 or so hours to get there. Get to drive thru Chicago. Will it be to my advantage to go around Chicago? I mean I am only in my pickup.
Can you tell I'm getting excited? lol
kickin chicken Thanks this.
