Adventure of Werner orientation in Springfield

Springfield isn't the best terminal to get out of with a trainer, unfortunately. Trust me, I speak from experience, I've worked with Werner twice before, and will be coming back again on the 14th (hopefully you will be out and about by then.) But look at it this way, it's better than Allentown, PA.

My first adventure with Werner involved a four car convoy from Springfield to Omaha, NE to find trainers for most of my orientation class. But that was back in 2003.

What slogan? They'll take you places?



I was told .26 CPM after the training period, guess that was wrong?

 

.21 per mile> WOW I was getting .26 per mile about a year ago. and did alot of sitting. Sorry to hear that.

 

(1) Werner slogan is "We care, Werner cares."
(2) I was at 3 different terminals for pick up for training: Fontana, CA, Dallas, TX and Omaha, NE. Final drop-off at Phoenix, AZ.
(3) Werner and any other company that takes in new drivers receives $10K tax credit for each person completing their orientation and going out with a trainer. Plus, for the first 6 months you are with them, they get another $5K toward "accidents." That's why Werner, Covenant, Gordan etc take newbies on.

 

Get used to waiting. You will wait a lot with this company. I was in Allentown recently waited 4 days for my truck to be fixed. On the 4th day my dispatcher called me and said go see fleet assignments you're setup to get a different truck. Niice. Truck never got touched either.

Sat in Cornwall, Ontario for 3 days with no load, even though they have a bridge to the USA IN THAT TOWN. Why couldnt they just deadhead me to the USA for a load? Gosh!

Nowadays they arent giving me any miles at all....I thought they were trying to push me to become a trainer, but I keep trying to get to the trainer class and i keep missing it. Nice. I don't know what the deal is with those people in Omaha...

Anyway, that said, I did not wait for a trainer. I was in an orientation class of 5 people and i was the last one to leave...and that was the next morning. They must be hiring a lot of students right now, or losing a lot of trainers, or something. But get used to waiting. You'll wait a lot with werner.

Honestly, you'll wait a lot with OTR period, but werner seems to be way worse than they have to be.

 

Best advice I can give you is , if you deliver a load close to any Werner terminal afterwards do not request to go to the terminal. Instead go to a truckstop if one is close by and say its to get food, not a shower cause the termialmight have one. Either that or stay at the cons if you can and they will try to get you a load wuicker than being at a terminal. Also you dont have to worry about getting red tagged. I n a 2 week period I spent 10 days oout of the 2 weeks sitting at a terminal. "No loads checkback later was the common thing.

Oh yeah when I mentioned the sitting it was when I got assigned my truck.
