I have a Cobra 25 LTD WX Classic CB radio I bought back in 1997 when I drove for the Well Service company. After getting out of the truck I put the radio away and headed to a new job. I haven't had this thing out since then.
So, I hook the thing up in my pickup the other day to see if it works and it, well, sort of does... I receive from others fine. Even get my signal out when I just key the mic, but nothing when I talk. I try to get a radio check and nothing. I've played with it, keying the mic and have gotten a response back from guys keying the mic back. What can I do? Should I go buy a new mic and try it? If I buy one and it ends up not being the problem will the TA take it back? THanks for the help. I have an old magnetic mount antenna, could this be the problem? Oh and the weather band works perfectly fine.

Sounds like it could be your mic.

First check the ground on the coax. Sounds like a problem I had in the spring with coax corrosion. I replace my coax every other year at least. The guys that use the clear shield coax know what I am talking about. It starts to turn green even if it has heat shrink to seal the connectors. A CB shop will test your mic for free. The bad news is that if it is the coax you will need a new antenna setup most likely as the majority of them are a sealed unit so you can't replace just the coax.

Is the mic gain all the way up?

Are your SWR's 1.5:1 or less?

    Check these 2 items first.
