Waiting at shippers and receivers....a little bit of Line 4, then stretching the truth on Line 1 or Line 2??? A necessary evil????

"Come on officer, everybody's doing it!!"

Tell me how you do it if you can't make up for the lost $$$$ with Detention Pay?

I always go with line two. It's more believable than if you state you were off duty, and less likely to raise scrutiny, especially,if you've shown you arrived at 0600,then you say you went ''off duty'' for 4 hours before you got rolling..

Depending on who you work for, and their safety department, I would just catch up on my sleep, and when I get my bills, re-do the log,to show a 15 minute load/unload and go from there..

Better that he learns to do it right, then come up with a lame excuse like ''everyone does it..'' lol...

My advice is to vary it. Do not show the same thing at every shipper/consignee. And remember, some shippers/consignees time stamp the arrival time/finish time on the BOL. Waiting to load/at the ready to load is technically line 4. DOT cops know the industry, they ain't dumb, so don't get too crazy with the log book. But you can be creative and need to be if you want max driving hours. :biggrin_1square9::fucyc::smt027:glasses6:

Here is a thought, how about finding a really good company? One that pays for all of your on duty time in some way. Would that not solve the problem? In my opinion, if you have to cheat the system in order to make money, there is something very wrong with that company.

The sleeper berth is 3 feet from the drivers seat. I move my butt back there for any wait time on a customer load or unload. That way I can legally log sleeper berth because that is where I am.

If I am actually performing the unloading its line 4. If a plant makes me leave the truck and wait in a break room its line 4. You cannot log line 1 unless you can leave the truck and go someplace else. The sleeper is you friend for maximizing your 70 hour week. You can wait there as easily as the drivers seat. There is nothing more frustrating than having to do a 34 hour reset 150 miles from home.

It would, but there's too many dumb truckers willing to sit around for peanuts and happy as a lark to do so.

There is also something very wrong with that system.

    Let me ask you this:
How many people do you know that would show up for 2, 3, 4+ unpaid hours sitting around at their day job for no pay?
    I can't think of a one.
    I doubt you can either.
But the Great American Trucker, (AKA: Knight of the Open Road, Last American Cowboy, etc.) is expected to do just that.

Well, not on my account I can assure you!
