gotta be the slowest trucks on the road!

When you pay for the fuel, you can run as fast as you want. Can't fault any business for trying to save money in tough economic times. Any company driver that doesn't like the policy is free to leave.

Driver Beware- These guys have freight. I thought Id hire on and be able to hang out at the terminal or truckstops. Hell NO. Im driving like 25 to 3500 miles a week. I cant stand it. I wanted to walk around the truckstop with my cowboy boots and hat on and look cool but noooo. Then I was looking forward to getting an old wore out truck so I could spend time in the shop but didnt happen. They gave me a 2010 model. ######. Ok so alls not lost I was looking forward to never getting home on time and wouldnt you know...they screwed that up and got me home a day early. Come on guys cant you be like all the others!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sweetdaddy915 and Polymath Thank this. -
Do you get cherry machine time ???
That's all that REALLY matters !!!! -
great thread. i applied on cdljobs.com and a few other generic sites while i was in school that send your app out to several companies. the Shaffer division contacted me and i then started the hire process.
if you are in a hurry to get on the road, you are looking at the wrong company. they take a good amount of time before they call you with your information of where to be and when. start to finish, it was just short of a month for me. i too got the safety department excuse for 9 days. as soon as i said the hell with it and started looking again, the phone rang and well it was Crete.
i have to be at the K'ville terminal this monday, 6-14-2010 at 8am. from there i guess it is the pee in a cup, the crate lifting and walking around and the road test and paperwork galore.
the thing i like about knoxville is the the terminal they are using (new one isnt quite finished on I40) is at the 374 yardstick. my mom lives off the 373 and is one mile from the freeway. love it. no motel for me
i think they said i will be with a Crete trainer for the first 4 weeks, then a Shaffer one for the last 4. that will probably change, as change is the biggest thing with this industry.
its been 6 weeks since i was in a tractor, but you know what? im not worried one bit about the road test. i just hate that frigging double clutching. i might ask the driver who gives me the road test if i can skip the clutch as we all know 9 out 10 do just that.
more to come...........................Kimmi Thanks this. -
FWIW - When I give road tests, I don't care if you double-clutch or not - I'm more concerned about how you handle the transmission, and the vehicle in general.
It's not just one thing that I'd fail you on, it's a combination of things, all of them relating to how well you handle the truck.
If you've driven before, don't worry - you'll do fine!
cadillacdude1975 Thanks this. -
I've seen the Crete yard in PHX, does Schaffer have its own yard or do they share facilities? Is the training the Same? Is Crete taking students from the Southwest? thanks for your time.
-
They share yards. I dont know on the rest.
-
Your school would have to be PTDI certified to be accepted. Not sure about the southwest, sorry. Just give them a call to ask any questions.
