Which is exactly why I leave such a long following distance ahead of me even when running with someone. I see the tailgating train all the time and they're usually going about 10 mph over the speed limit. Yeah, I know, somebody is going to come back at me and tell me all about why it's safe to tailgate and speed.

We may never know why this crash happened, but maybe some more of us will have a bit of common sense.

In these states where the speed limit is 55 truck drivers are scared to pass... so they just sit in line like lemings, way to close.. Kind of surprised it don't happen more often..

Illinois used to be the same way.....

I drove by here a few hours ago!!! It wasn't a pretty sight..

You can run 62 MPH in Cali and DOT won't bother you....

By running 62...you'll leave all of the CRE and Swifty's behind to play tag and grab azzhat with each other....

I have been passing a lot more Prime slow pokes lately than even Swifty's. Did have a CRST trying to pass a CRE the other day. Took them 5 minutes to decide who was slower.

That's almost three hours after the first crash was reported. I think some responsibility may lie with the Highway Patrol here. I don't know, but I notice that many times in these situations they will park a cruiser or two up the road with lights flashing to warn oncoming motorists.

mythbusters did a show on it and it does save on gas. but at 10 feet behind another car you would have to react faster than you can blink your eyes

Prime driver told me they are governed at 57,so he quit and went to Oakley. And I agree with the previous poster that if you are sitting still,or moving slowly on the Interstate, put your 4 ways on. Imagine a fully loaded gasoline tanker plowing into the rear of your trailer at 65.
