Ended up getting a little ###### run up to Wisconsin from Gary (159 miles) late Saturday night that had to deliver at 4:00 am (Save-A-Lot). Took them 4 hours to take off some toilet paper at a cost of 225.00. #### wish they would pay me that well to unload TP as we had the option to hire a lumper or do it our self. Thought I was going to get hung out to dry on Sunday as it was nearing 5pm or so when I got the beep to go pick up at a Lowes DC in Rockingham, IL delivering in Saint Peters, MO on Monday at 1300. I managed to get the p/u early and got unloaded at 0700 Monday morning for a nice change of pace. Got a load assignment going from St. Louis to Poca, WV that would have been a ball buster to get there on time but before I could get to shipper that load was canceled and picked up at our drop yard in ESLouis going to Nash, Tx (just W of Texarkana). That was nice as I got to stay and visit my mom overnight off I-30 and delivered the load this afternoon. Immediately got a preplan to pick up in Shreveport where I am sitting tonight waiting to get loaded early tomorrow and head up to Henryetta, OK for a fairly easy run. Good change of pace to get away from the I-95/I-80 corridors.

Got a plan to pick up in Ft. Smith going to Roanoke Rapids, NC with a nice two day stop at my house before delivering on Monday morning but alas got to the shipper and the product wasn't going to be ready for pickup until Monday:) so rolled to the truckstop nearby and ended up getting a relay with a load delivering east of Indianapolis tomorrow around noon. Sitting at the Pilot nearby tonight and plan on getting a little sleep in time tomorrow morning. Got a preplan to pick up in Indy after that going to New Hampshire for a couple of drops and finishing up outside Boston. I am guessing furniture:) but hope that I am wrong. The run is a good one regardless so ain't complaining.

Trips since going out June 1:

    June 1-2 -- Durham, NC -- East Hartford ----- 613
    2-4 -- E. Hartford -- Lynn, MA -- Cicero, IL ---1111
    5-6 -- Gary, IN -- Edgerton, WI --- 159
    6-7 -- Edgerton, WI -- Rockford, IL -- Saint Peters, MO --- 359
    7-8 -- St. Peters, MO -- E. St. Louis, IL --- Nash, TX --- 534
    8-10 -- Nash, TX --- Shreveport, LA --- Henryetta, OK --- 373
    10 -- Henryetta, OK ----Ft. Smith, AR --- 92
    10-12 -- Ft. Smith, AR --- Greenfield, IN --- 657
(12-15 early -- Greenfield, IN -- Indianapolis, IN --- Nashua, NH -- Londonderry, NH -- Wilmington, MA ---- 1014) This last load has an arrival time at 1800 tomorrow so if I can get it early hopefully will be able to get the loads off early but not counting on it.

June 1-15 --------------- 4912 paid miles, not too shabby.

I went to high school in Durham, Northern HS. I was in finance then went into research at Emory University in Atlanta. I did molecular and immunology stuff. How does your Post Doc compare to your current career? Would you go back if you had the funding? I hope to start RDTC late this month, I think it should be an interesting change. Your mileage looks good so far; about 2,500/week.

Well post doc work doesn't compare much with truck driving except the pay sucks in both for the amount of work you do:) I would do another post doc if the conditions were right and for my area of specialty that would entail being at only a few places. I am continuing to look for openings at universities and even at teaching high school again if the opportunity presents itself (pay about 52K for high school in Durham with a Ph.d) but not holding my breath. I am enjoying the driving again and I am content with my choice at least for my year commitment and then I will reevaluate my situation after that. The only thing that I am really not liking is finding parking east of the Mississippi if you happen to be driving past the early afternoon hours. I managed to find a spot toward the end of a rest area just north of Columbus tonight. Going to be in a quandry again tomorrow probably as my fuel stop is in Mayfair, NY (560 or so miles away) and I probably won't be able to get there until 2130 or so EST. It would be nice to be able to grab a shower late tomorrow after sweating my ### off for two days but perhaps a better plan is to shut her down early as I don't have to deliver until 0600 Tuesday although it would be nice to get all done by Monday afternoon, will just have to see how things go.

SP richards, napa and perhaps one is insulation EIS (Londonderry) I think. Just tracked them down on google maps and all seem to be relatively easy access. Holing up in Scranton, PA tonight and hope to get a very early start tomorrow morning and try to get them off a day early.

Majestyk do you regret your decision to enter the transportation industry? Is it as bad as some say? Should I run for the hills? Thanks.

I don't regret it as I had no other viable options available to me at the time and bills don't stop coming in so had to do something. I don't mind driving anyway although it would be nice to have a little more freedom on a few things such as fueling as long as you stayed within the regular stops. That would allow you to do such things as get a shower every day without paying for it which would make things more comfortable for the drivers (especially those without APU's). It is not an easy job to be sure but with the right mind set nothing that can't be handled easily enough. Would I stay if offered a decent teaching position, probably not.
Stuck here in Nashua, NH for the next 17 hours or so as I have to wait to get unloaded until 0530 tomorrow. Guess I will take a little walk about the area and settle down to reading some more "War and Peace".

Majestyk, What is their policy for deadhead miles (paid?) or is it called bobtail? Thanks. I was wondering how that worked when you came off hometime.
