Hi there,
My father drives for Landstar on a 48 flatbed. He joined Landstar hoping to make more money than at CRST where he initially started. The idea of Landstar's loadboards sounded great, but if you want to be driving constantly, then you just don't have time (or the Internet) to watch the loadboard and catch a good load in time to call the agent and take it. He started out with the phone call alerts, but by the time the system sent him the alerts, the loads were off the loadboard.
That's where I came in. I started watching the loadboard for him as a full-time job. I am handling contacting the agents, negotiating rates where possible, getting him loads home when he wants to, and dealing with financial information getting faxed. Since we started doing this, He has been running nonstop for Landstar (except when his hours are up).
My question for Landstar BCOs is how are they managing to run for Landstar without the use of an assistant? Are they able to get good paying loads by watching the loadboard when they drive? If there was a service that was willing to do this full time for Landstar BCOs (a service independent of Landstar), would they be willing to pay a small fee for it?
Thanks for any help you can give!

There are several people doing this so someone must want it.

This is a very good question and i've thought/fantasized about it that if i were going to do a landstar type deal i may have to have someone "dispatching" for me.
Can i ask how much % you, specifically, are getting? And how much does that = in dollars?
i know quite a few people who are homebound and/or unemployed (even though they have high level degrees). This would be perfect for them, but i'm not quite sure how much to pay them. 2% per load? -
In 2005 when I joined LS the freight was so abundant that there was no need for this. Good paying loads were almost a dime a dozen. Certainly easy enough to come by with out paying hard earned revenue to another person to "dispatch" you.
There was little need to pre-plan that far out. Many guys would wait until they were unloading to start booking their next load. Accepting the fact that they might loose a few hrs here or there waiting until tomorrow to load.
When things got a little tighter I used a variety of things. Phone alerts, search for loads while taking a break from driving. My wife watching the load board ect. -
I'm a new Landstar BCO and fortunately, my wife is a stay-at-home Mom and Grandmom. She has just enough time in between her other duties to do quite a good job acting as my dispatcher. I'm sure there are others that aren't as fortunate as I that would likely pay a reasonable fee for your services.
