In my opinion local LTL, daytime deliveries, not nightime linehaul, is still the best overall deal;
Home everynight, steady income, good benefits, weekends off.
The money may or may not be as high as OTR or nightime linehaul, but overall i think this is the best gig for a driver.
Help with making a choice on what trucking company.

That's assuming a lot.....I would rather swallow a .38 than drive local or linehaul for some freight carrier!
I couldn't stand the pay cut first off and then there's the crushing boredom of doing the same thing over and over and over every night!FriedTater and BIGLOU52 Thank this. -
Plus having your every move "DICTATED" ,yeah Puppet Driver!
Gotta Love attention to run with a clown show like that . . . . .

No matter who you pick, the odds are you won't be with that company in a year. Once you get some experience under your belt new opportunities will open up. Right now your choices are hotdogs, hamburger or some tough bottom round. You have to wait a year or two for the TBone or Ribeye
Of the list you gave, Covenant seems to be the best.
Good Luck with your future on the road!BIGLOU52 and FriedTater Thank this. -
Most LTL companies require you to run linehaul or driver/dock worker before they let you have a P&D position.BIGLOU52 Thanks this.

Actually its exactly the opposite . . . . . . .
You will work local P/D long before you get the comfy night/day time line haul runs.
Some Company's use the "bid" system and others Seniority

i mean for me, and i've done OTR AND local, i feel this is the best overall gig for me; Closest to a 9-to-5 gig i've experienced. It probably won't be exactly 9to5, but you know what i mean.
If you're into adventure, then yes, OTR IS the way to go.
As far as boredom, that is a problem for many. For me, even though you're running the same route everyday, it still not exactly the same thing everyday and that makes all the difference to me.
When i was with NEMF, you had to run nightime linehaul first and wouldn't even be considered for daytime peddle until you got the appropriate level of senority.
With FedEx Freight, it was the opposite, you had to run daytime and wouldn't even be considered for linehaul until you got in at least 6 months in and even then only if there were openings.BIGLOU52 Thanks this. -
What do you all think about Watkin & Shepard for a company and have any of you work for them?

I am in a similar position. I have same endorsements as you, but I live in Alabama. I have been 'invited' to Orientation by Werner, USXpress, May Trucking and Stevens. I am really close to heading to Dallas, but am having second thoughts as to whether I gathered enough info and applied to enough companies. The Stevens and Mat threads have me thinking I should take more time to think this through, but I am supposed to leave on a bus for Dallas Friday night. Man this is hard!BIGLOU52 Thanks this.

Azeron,
Have you considered McElroy Truck Lines out of Cuba, Al. I hear good things about them, and they hire students. Just a thought.
