After you pass the road test and go to the DMV to get your license you will have to look into a box and read a line and identify road signs and the peripheral vision. I didn't have to get a Wisconsin license. Just had to bring my test results back to my state and get mine here. That's not the case with everyone just depends on your home state. In any event you have to go through a vision check again.

Probably irrelevant, but in NC once you have your CDL permit there are no further tests to take to get your CDL other than the road test and any endorsements you want to add.

SAGE trucking school has a DOT-certified 3rd party examiner come to the school and give us our road test. If you pass, he gives you your results in a sealed envelope to take to the DMV. You hand it in at the DMV and they key in the scores. At that point, you let them know if you want to take the tests for any additional endorsements. Next, "Show them the money!" Bureaucrats gotta eat...or do they. Snap another picture and you're out the door. Again, this was the routine in NC.

HINDSY, I know you're going through their school for new drivers, but by chance do you know what the orientation is like for recent school graduates? I'm leaning towards Roehl more and more each day. I like their excellent safety rating and overall comments on this site are favorable for Roehl.

Turns out I have to sink $350 in new glasses. Who would have thought they could change so much in 3 yrs that I would have trouble seeing the DMV eye test right column (I nailed the left and center columns). At least I have two 1/2 weeks until class starts.

    Day 3 in the books!

Today started in class looking at concepts of backing and coupling/uncoupling.
Out to the range and started with uncoupling/coupling then went on to turn right for some laps. Went to lunch and returned to right turns for a minute. Then it was time to Strightline back. We did a nice job of that. Concept is pretty cut and dry... Don't over work... After the 3 of us got that we were set up and shown how to 45 or alley dock back... Then we all got a turn at it. Did fairly well. I'm getting a hang of things. Tomorrow is the open road! say a prayer for us... lol

I prayed for them all! lol:biggrin_2559:

    Good stuff!
Road driving was good! Not bad... I got a little nervous and really opened my eyes a bit because of the size of these things. Cars really vanish behind you... Got a a good feel for it! 2 of us are grasping well. One not so well, he just needs more time. Never really drove anything. So two of us will be staying with this trainer and one is heading witha trainer for some one on one training time. Which ends up being good for us all. More time behind the wheel. Did our laps and then some 45/Alley backing. Tomorrow is more laps, maybe a little different route. I'm sure the backing practice will continue.

I'm getting it. My timing during the backing is just off by a hair. I am getting in with one pull up, but I want NONE!!!! :biggrin_25510:

Still having fun:biggrin_2559: Can't wait till tomorrow....
Well hopefully none of these There is a crazy rash of tornados all west of us here and heading this way!

So, please say a prayer for all of us in this weather event!:biggrin_25524:

Did you ever find out if we take an eye exam at the WI DMV? I keep hearing conflicting stories. Thanks! Some say we just take the driving test and bring the paperwork back home, some say we do it all in WI.

Why don't you just call them and ask them yourself?
