Hi all, can anyone point me in the write direction to some place where i can find the percentage of truckers who have a GED instead of a highschool diploma. Thank you.
Also A couple of questions for you any truckers here who have a GED instead of a highschool diploma?
If a certain state required you to earn a highschool diploma in order to qualify for a CDL(or any drivers license in general) how would feel. Since I do not know much about interstate laws I don't know if this law would affect your ability to drive through that state if you had obtained your cdl elsewhere. Would this bother you if it was your state?
Do any of you know

I personally think all new drivers coming in should have to have a GED or HS diploma. It would certainly help our image at the very least. But on the other hand could your college educated doctor or lawyer drive a truck any better than an old timer without a high school education? I think not..

I got my GED after being out of school for 20+ years.
While it made me feel good about myself, and like I had accomplished something important, it didn't help me learn out to drive a big truck.
I don't know what kind of rules individual states may have about this.

Truckers Are a career by themselves I don't think you need a GED Or a highschool diploma for this. However i need these satistics for an assignment.

When I started in the business I was a HS dropout. I quit in the first semester of 10th grade.
Does that make me dumb or ignorant? No.
I got my GED back in 2004 but scored high enough to where it was a regular HS diploma. FL used to do that back then.simplyred1962 Thanks this. -
Nobody has ever stopped me at the border and demanded a copy of my GED. Good thing, since I don't have a copy of it and don't care to get one. I've never needed it for anything.

The only thing I was very weak on were my math skills. Six weeks of study, and I was ready. (I was going once a week to a little community center, where they had tutors, and helped me pay for my testing.)
As a matter of fact, my written essay was put in the GED testing book the next year, as an example piece.
Now, I would have loved to have stayed in school, and gotten my diploma that way, my family circumstances were such that I couldn't.
But, you know what? I APPRECIATE that GED much more than I would have a regular H.S. diploma. And, there actually WAS a real diploma ceremony for the GED class.
And my kids were there to cheer me, and it was one of my very proudest moments!

Math was my weak point also, for that matter it still is! I can do 99% of the math needed for daily survival, but trig, calculus etc had me stumped.
I quit school because I was bored and getting in trouble, skipping class, sneaking cigs in the orange grove etc etc... I quit HS went to the Vo-Tech took Diesel Mechanics for a couple months then was offered a job driving OTR for a transporter. I was running a tad bit outlaw in those days....simplyred1962 Thanks this. -
What about the percentage of people that have a college degree? There's a lot of those out there too. I know a few that are scary smart.
