OK im running cobra 29 w/ k40 antenna.. SWR on channel 40 is 1.4 SWR on channel 1 is 1.2.. The whip is in the coil part all the way will not go in any further. is it worth "trimming" the antenna to match it or is it good enoughas is ??? ( it recieves and transmits just fine) And will it hurt the antenna if it is trimmed.

I wouldn't bother doing it, your swr is fine.
jakebraker and squirrellsgnwild Thank this. -
At 1.5:1 your only losing 4% of your power it is fine ....
-
Your ok,....
However in the past I have been know to fine tune a antenna with a file to get just a bit more,......lol... -
Just get a file and work it down abit, wont take more then acouple minutes
Just make sure it "flat" when your done.
Seriously, anything 1.5 or under is plenty good to go,if you dont have a good meter
you will never "see" 1:1:1 anyway . . . . .

This is a fairly recent topic, so I figured I would just post my related question here instead of starting a new thread about it. I want to get a better SWR meter than the Radio Shack one I've had for a while. I've seen an Astatic model A70-05120 with three separate meters for SWR/Power/Modulation and what seems to be Comparable Dosy Meters with the same three separate meters. They have two like this, Models D60-07042 and D60-07044.
What are the differences in these three different models, and which would be the best recommendation for me to purchase for my mobile setup? -
For a mobile application I'd stick with the Radio Shack meter due to it's smaller size. -
Well, can anyone else answer my question about the differences/quality of those three meters I asked about? Thanks.

All meters sold for CB work well some may be better but they do the job. Some will tell you that they are not true readings but anything better that 20% is good enough for what most of us do.
I own 2 BIRDS # 43 and don't find them any better that my JETSTREAM ( $140 ) just a whole bunch more money. -
a bird meter is the cadillac of all meters, but it is very expensive and i have seen alot of people compare a bird to a rat shack meter and the rat shack is very close in numbers...
so unless you plan on runnin 1000 watts or better just save your money and stick with the rat shack meter..
