Whatever happened to driving your own truck? Who really cares how the other person is driving? If I sat here and wrote down all the times someone has driven like a ####### around me I'd fill this forum and about 10 others. Your best bet is to say out of the way and keep your nose clean. Set the cruise and ride!

Hahahaha.
.
Honestly..What you did would not have pissed me off. You're going to lose a litle speed going up a hill. I'd try to pass you on the first hill and maybe the second, but after that i'd figure it out and just back off a little bit....
Also, I only drive in states that have speed limits quite a bit lower than 75 normally. But...I used to have this happen to me just as much when I ran out west...
It's mostly when these guys are real heavy and the hills are real steep, they'll slow down to 45 or 50 and then FLY down the hill.
If you're heavy enough to slow down to 45, and I'm not, I'm going to pass you...and you know #### well that I'm going to do what i can to keep an extra 15 or so MPH going up a hill if i can....you know how it works...
Today I was the heavy guy. I'm hauling rolls of paper and went north up I65 all the way to Cincinatti. Got 600 miles in 13 hours (11 driving). Tried hard to make the big 700 but I was stuck in cincinatti rush hour for about an hour, and the hills slowed me down quite a bit. Hit my flashers quite a few times on those grades...Nothing like the west though, of course.....
I got up to 80 at one point, and for the most part, I didn't pass any toilet paper laden swifties if i could help it.
I did almost lose my hood to a swifty though. Gawd. If you're taking up a third or more of the lane next to you, there is a problem. It was a company truck with side stacks too, what the hell? I never seen that on a swift truck before! I will admit, I nearly hit him, but....Honestly, he should not have been in my lane either.... and no, he was not attempting to change lanes either. I had to blow my air horn to wake him up, wouldn't correct the situation himself..what the hell is with these people... -
You wouldn't throttle for a tractor/drive slide. That would make it worse. You did exactly the right thing for a tractor slide. I'm not talking about tractor slide, though. I'm talking about trailer slide. That's a whole different ballgame.
-
I had combination tractor and trailer slides before, never just a trailer slide. And how the #### do you have a trailer slide on dry pavement?
-
Not a real problem on dry pavement with no heavy wind currents.
My truck is governed at 66 and depending on the hill, I usually maintain a downhill speed of 70 using a combination of stab braking and jakes.
If I needed to straighten out the trailers (I haul doubles), I could simply cut the jake and let gravity take me up to a higher speed.
However, this has never been an issue.
Keep in mind that I travel on the same roads everyday and I know every twist and turn.
When the weather turns foul (wet, icy, snowy roads, etc), I agree with you 100%.
Then I gear down below the governed speed for the exact reasons you mentioned. -
Its not stab brakign, stab braking is an emergency braking technique for non-abs trucks....
-
Sheeeet....I've had all 5 axles slipping at the same time before. Ain't no thing, really. The morning after a freezing rain is always fun.

If it weren't for slick roads and adverse weather, driving would get pretty boring.
-
you all are talking about trailer slide and tractor slide im just wondering what the he- doulble hocky sticks someone would be going down 3 sisters at 75 mph or faster? the only thing i can think of is you cant fix stupid.
Injun Thanks this. -
dude, your signal did NOT give you the right of way....
what he/she did was not very courteous I agree, and the same thing pissed me off when Trans Am did it to me a few weeks ago going thru Carlisle but those things happen....just say'n -
It does not matter if my signal does not give me the right of way. It matters that he acted like he was more important than me just because i drive for werner. He acted like a ####### idiot four wheeler. He knows better.
Its not like he was just in the left lane cruising along at a faster speed than i was either. He was behind me, doing an extremely similar speed, i put my signal on, after mine blinks twice, i was ready to start going over, but he had ripped it out there as fast as he coudl to beat me. That is an ####### move right there.
