I bought two years a go a GPS for my wife as a Christmas gift. She was very happy with it for less than a year coz after it start having display problems and now is just another defective gadget in the drawer.
Since then I don't really trust them anymore and that is the reason I don't dare to buy one for truckers.

With the one on my laptop if something goes bad, I uninstall then reinstall it and that's it. Is true, they are not for trucks, but rather than to pay 400$ for a year then to have surprises I prefer going with the laptop.

    Just my .02

I have a Rand Mcnally TND 500 and I love it. It has paid for itself a few times already. I still use my map and never put 100% faith in any electronic device but it has yet to send me anywhere I wasnt suppose to be. If I ever have to purchase another GPS unit It would be a TND 500 or maybe the new TND 700.

I took the new unit out of the box and set it up in the truck. I made a trip down to NC and back to Ohio. As I pulled into the recievers yard it went blank and died on the table. That's 4 of those units that were ALL defective. I repeat, don't waste your time with a 465 Garmin.
I have the Rand McNally TND500 now. I'll let you guys know what I think of it after I give it a test run.

    I have the TND 700.

In less than a week it has:

    1) Allowed me to make a pickup that I would have missed had I taken the time to call for directions...a pickup that saved me from sitting for the weekend.

    2) Took me to a downtown Minneapolis pickup that would have been a horror with verbal directions.

    3) Saved me about $200.00 in fuel 'cuz I'm an old dog with bad routing habits.

It has its quirks and it's not perfect...but not having to call for directions anymore? That's a godsend.

    Absolutely love it. Period.

I have the tnd 500 and been running it for almost 7 months now. has saved me alot of time and heart ache. Only thing it has ever done to me is sent me down a 4 lane road where i needed the middle lane not the right lane. but that is where paying attention to signs when your 2 miles from a customer on long island pays off. :D

The 500 didn't impress me at all. I took it back today and got my money back.
First the power plug where it plugged into the unit was loose and wouldn't make a good connection. After my Garmin experience I was not ready to deal with a hardware problem right out of the box.
Second, it kept changing it's mind. It would have the route spot on and then it went off track telling me to take this exit and then another exit and make a U-turn (several times) and when it finally got back on track it changed it's mind again and started the same sh** all over again. It locked up on me twice and had to be re-booted. You couldn't give me another one. Period..!!!

Did you upgrade it to version 1573? It sounds like you still had version 1472 on it and in the route preferences something set to avoid. Their was a issue with avoids and version 1573 corrected it.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Does anybody know if the PCMiler 450 organizes or alphabetizes the favorites. Or does it just append them to the end as entered. Meaning you have to search through all 1000 favorites. If it does can you explain what it does? TY
