I have no hard feelings towards anyone on this thread....... I am a student. I am in the dark like most newbee's....I wish nothing but the best for you(little trucker) and your adventure with Prime.

I am glad for everyone's input on Prime. Like I said in an earlier post. U2, IP, Sazook, TruckerMike and even NoTarps4me. I think everyone is just having a little bit of fun on your account and I guess thats not fair......

I know no one here wants anyone to fail.... I sure don't want to fail.

Wish you the best at Prime and all of life's greatest adventures.....

See any newbie's at orientation in August. Later...

Been reading the posts from '09 till now and still would like to know if my wife and I can get our CDL's at the college here at home and then go to work at Prime or if they want us to get it with them for some kind of Gov. Money?

Prolly be cheaper (as in free after one years employment with Prime) to get it through them. Also the training will be "real world" in a loaded truck out on the highways, dealing with shippers, receivers, etc. But I do believe freshly graduated CDL holders are hired. Then are required to go through a training schedule very similar to what you'd do going through the whole process at Prime. This kinda stuff changes with the wind, so pick up a phone and a recruiter will be able to answer your questions with up to date info.

From what I've read on here you can get your CDL at another school and work for Prime. If I am not mistaken and if I am wrong, I am sure IP or U2 will correct me..... you can't have your CDL for more than 3 months. I think they want new drivers. I could be wrong like I said. I know you would start off as a "C" class driver and you can get information about that from their website. They would prefer you to get their CDL through them I heard.... easier I guess. Not sure. I wish you luck and keep reading. Lots of good information on here about Prime. Some good, some bad.... but I think its all what you make of it.

Thank you both for the information. I am just trying to figure out a way to get the CDL here so my wife and I can save a month and stay close to the comforts of home until we have to split up for the training part. Once the training starts we are committed to not see much of home for the next 2 years. I hope our goal is not more than we can accomplish. We are trying to get on with Prime as thier training is longer and the feedback on the trainers surpasses what we have been told about most of the other Companies. We are hoping that with the 80,000 mile training we will be better prepaired to do this job correctly, not hurt anyone on the road, and make enough money to pay our bills. We worked for 5 years to get our liscense's just to lay hardwood in Ca. 2 years on the road got that beat with a big ol stick. Thank you again for sharing Ya'lls knowhow.

You are most welcome. I am starting with Prime August 3rd and will be getting my CDL through them.
I could be wrong, however, I have heard where the husband gets their CDL and then learns to be a trainer and then trains the wife. I am not sure if Prime allows that, however, I think I've read on here that wives have been trained by their husbands. I have no idea if it is considered a conflict of interest or not. Maybe something you could look into by calling a recruiter and asking. Heck, answer is no before you ask I was always told.

Let me know how it goes. You should already be on the road by the time we get there. Depending on What they say about the school in college thing. Either way, if we have to go to thier school we should be about a month behind you. From the homework we have done and the info here, I think we have chosen about the best place to start in this field. Only time will tell. Good luck

I got my CDL through a private school than went over to Prime. If I had to do it all over again, I would have just done my CDL training with Prime. But either way will work.

I dont own a laptop, will eventually. However, I will try to create a thread eventually when I start with Prime to allow everyone to know of my experiences with Prime. Def will keep everyone updated as best as I can.
