    Hey guys!

I've been trying to find a cooler/freezer that I could use in my company truck. I've gone through 4 Colemans in 4 years and they always seem to burn out after 1 year apiece. I'm not looking to get one of those $500+ professionally installed units. I'm a company driver and I can't get one of those. I need to find something reliable that isn't going to give out after a year and that I can keep stuff cool and frozen in their respective compartments.

    Any suggestions?

Mods: if this could be better used under a different topic forum, plz let me know.

You know you can get replacement motors for Coleman and Igloo coolers at any TA for $22 right?

I use a 40-quart thermoelectric Igloo, but it doesn't have a freezer... however, it has lasted quite a while, and as the last hand said, you can buy replacement motors just about anywhere. I thought about having a freezer in the truck, but decided instead to adjust my thinking and shopping methods... I do keep two other regular icebox coolers (plastic Igloos of different size) in the truck, and I find that frozen foods stored on ice in these coolers will take a while to thaw, especially if you buy block ice and cut or hack it to size (I use a hatchet on oversized blocks). Then again, I don't buy much frozen food on the road... I prefer fresh foods, as they generally involve less mess, unless you're talking about TV dinners, frozen burritos, or whatever. Oh, yeah, I keep my Igloo flat on its back (as opposed to upright like a refrigerator) in order to conserve cold air when I open it. I guess you already know that some solo drivers strap, tie, or otherwise secure their thermoelectric coolers into the shotgun seat---I do this myself if the sleeper is small---but usually I have it on its back in that one cooler compartment, 10? The only advantage to having it in the shotgun seat is that you can reach over and grab stuff while you're driving... I'm not gonna tell ya how many times I've made sandwiches (with all the trimmings, no lie, using my atlas as a cutting board) while cruising in the middle of nowhere (can't be done in the city at rush hour). Some truck cab and sleeper designs allow one to yank a cooler out far enough behind one to then open the top or lid and grab stuff... it all depends on the make and model of truck. One final observation: I can pack my 40-quart Igloo with all kinds of good fresh food, the same way I stock my fridge at the house. Ya might hafta stack stuff on top of other stuff, but it can be done, and you can eat very well out of a 40-quart Igloo (I generally eat only one restaurant meal per day, usually lunch or dinner where a salad bar is also available, and I save heller money by doing this).
