I got a Ticket last week in Stockton CA for being over length. The officer measured me at 73ft and said that I needed to be under 65ft. Question, Will this add points to my record? I have heard many different opinions. Some say that it's just a fine and not a moving violation while others say it will be two points. I already have 1.5points on my record and feel that If get 2 more I might be unemployed. Any advice would be appreciated.

It could go either way, depends on what section of the VC he wrote the ticket under. It is technically its a moving violation. More than likely it would not be more than 1.5 points.

I would talk to a lawyer to get the straight answer. You are going to get bunches of answers here, probably conflicting.

Ive been busted for over length before and without more information I cannot answer your question.
Part of the problem you are facing is jurisdiction. Different Interstates, highways, county roads and yes even roads within city limits may or may not have specific restrictions on length. Even the same highway can have different length restrictions depending where you are on the highway; a perfect example of this is Hwy 101 in the northern part of the state.
Not all lawyers are created equal and there is more research and homework to be done before going that route, just my opinion.
Exactly where did the violation occur?
What is the exact VC on the ticket?
Was it a CHP officer, Sherriff or city law enforcement officer?
Heres a link to get you started! http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/traffops/trucks/trucksize/length.htm

My over length violation last week in Truckee, Ca. is a dismissable. Once I corrected the violation, the CHP Officer signed the ticket. I sent it in with $25 and it will be dismissed. Hope this works. Good Luck!

I got an over lenth ticket when i was driving for SWIFT.I got it crossing the scales south bound on highway 101 in WEED California. The tandems were off by 2 holes.Had to slide tandems right then and there.Still got a ticket.Cost me 120 dollars for 2 holes. Pretty exspensive holes.LOL. Anyway checked DMV and it never showed up on my record.

FIRST- were you on a legal truck route ?
SECOND- does the city of Stockton have in the City Laws that
nothing over 65 ft in city limits ?
THIRD- 35401(a) is a generic over-length section with several
exemptions to it==check Calif Vehicle Code online to find them.
I got the same ticket by CHP in Tracy last year as the officer said
it was a violation of City of Tracy's laws. Won in court as Tracy
has NEVER had an over-length law on there books.Truckers Advocate Thanks this. -
One map i found on line shows Mckinnely and Sperry as both
City and County STAA routes.Truckers Advocate Thanks this. -
Even if it doesn't go on your MVR, it'll probably show up with a few points against your CSA2010 score.
