Fumes have been getting inside the cab and I'm really baffled as to where it is coming from. Recently i replaced the flex tube which has helped reduce the fumes, but it has not completely fixed the problem.

I have a Cummins engine on a 2006 Volvo 670. On the driver side i notice a tube about the width of a garden hose coming from the top front of the engine and leading to the underside of the engine. Now at the bottom of this tube I notice a small amount of oil dripping from it and is actually hitting material around the wheel.

Is it possible that fumes could be coming from this tube and getting inside the cab???

Ive noticed the same tube on Freightliners but usually they have more exhaust coming from them than i see on mine.

Thanks in advance for your help!

That tube is the CCV or Crank Case Vent tube. That little bit of oil and fumes is normal. Now for the fumes going into the cab I would lean more towards an exhaust leak on the truck because the CCV does not smell like normal exhaust fumes since it is venting out the crankcase. Smells more like hot diesel engine oil.

flashlight and mirror in hand, look for black soot on the pipes. joints , and welds are your most likely places. johnny

You have a leak on the exhaust manifold, turbo, or exhaust system. I would do what

check the pipe section behind the turbo sorta under the cab firewall, it's a pain to get a mirror up there to examine it, but mine cracked on my 780 last summer.

With the engine running Get a helper to put a clip-board or something over the exhaust pipe (to block it) while you look , feel around and listen at all the connections and pipes.

It's almost certainly gotta be between the turbo and were it exits to go verticle. Time to break out the coveralls..

check under the dash, there should be several air valves that look like sending units. i had a parking brake valve leaking air into the cab, smells just like exhaust. spray some soapy water on them. may be the problem.

    Thanks for all your replies.

Last night i checked around the turbo with the engine running and I heard what sounded like air rushing, which ive never heard before. I'm gonna break out a mirror and take a more detailed look.

I have a 2006 Volvo 670 with a Cummins ISX. This week I notice an excessive amount of exhaust fumes coming out of the Crank Case Vent tube. Does anyone know what could cause this?

Seems like every week somethings going wrong with this truck. 2 weeks ago I had an exhaust gasket put on. Now this!
