AH YES the bar upside the head and laying on the deck untill a fire engine and ambulance and 2 cops showed up!! Pretty embarrassing to say the lease but the blood stain is probably still on the deck and that was way back in the 80's!
The para sailing through a barbed wire fence was the straw that broke the camels back! It's funny how a tornado in Ok can sprout up while you're on top of a load tarping and you hold on to the silly thing like your 150 pound arse is going to hold it down! LOL After taking out the fence I decided I didn't need the tarp that bad! The owner of the trailer asked me wjere the tarp was and the best I could say was maybe in Kansas by now! That didn't go over to well! Needless to say he got his trailer back that week as it was way to much work! Went back to reefers and dry vans, tankers and drop decks! You know the easy stuff! ROFLMAO!

But for those few and far between places that won't let you on the dock but think they're going to charge me and it's not in the hauling contract, Not in this lifetime! and don't hold your breath!Works every time when you tell them they need to call the broker and shipper and verify that!

Is that what the lumper fees are for?:biggrin_25521: It had better be comfortable in there, you guys spend 1/2 your lives waiting it's the least they could do!:biggrin_2559:

A reefer is the only trailer we've never owned. I swear if I win the lottery I'm buying one and putting a walking floor in it and buying a video camera to record the show.:biggrin_2559: "you unload it or I will, you've got 10 min to decide!"

Building material 17 drops in one day. started at 0500, back at the yard at 1700. 375 miles, and yes every drop required straps to be loosend or removed. No tarp that day.:biggrin_25522:

    With TarpS. (THATS 2 TARPS) 12 drops. 13 hours. 265 miles. :biggrin_2555:

it can be done, I had driven local flatbeds for 1 year at that point.

Yes I was tired and dirty at the end of the day. but I was smilin. cause I finished all my stops:biggrin_25522:

Guess I better work on the heights thing. One of my projects for next week is to make a tool that eliminates the need to climb up on top of a load of logs to untwist the straps after I throw them over (or to prevent the twisting in the first place.)

It's one thing to be 13'-6" in the air, it's another to be that high while walking on a round slippery surface.

To me anything else just ain't truckin'!

I stopped throwing chains over high loads years ago...There are better ways to do it!

    As for the rest...Spot on!

Flatbedding seperates the weak from the tough...It ain't for everybody.

One of the most important things that should have been in that list...Portable barbeque grille (Mandatory for all REAL flatbedders) also pop up awning and camping chairs for when you're parked in the back row BBQ'n...

I also carry a folding picnic table W/bench for the serious weekend BBQ!

I can add nothing to that!

Horse and BUGGY???? Anyone worth his salt knows that the correct term for the flatbed was BUCKBOARD!

    Get your terminology right rookie!:biggrin_2559:

    And...By the way smart guy, I'm not OLD...I'm seasoned!:biggrin_255:

The primary ingredient for being a good flatbedder is common sense!
If you don't possess that...Keep slammin' doors!

My doctor has patients but he'd be a terrible flatbedder!

    Oh...You meant patience.:biggrin_25523:

I can smell the steaks cookin' already!

Is that all you can do?

    Slowpoke!:biggrin_2559:

I've pulled a reefer a few times...Never did I get anything unloaded for free, Except the one time in Dallas when the stupid lumper handed me my signed bill before I paid him and stood there watchin' while I drove away!:biggrin_2559:

I regularly back into places that would make most reefer guys wet their pants!
The old myth about flatbedders not being able to back is just that!
    A myth.

They got me in Houston for $100 for 1 pallet.

It'd better be cool...Since you're gonna be their all ###### day!

    Flatbeddin' ain't for everyone.

All you need to do is invent a machine that stops the wind from blowing...Simple!:biggrin_25525:

    That ain't nothing!
