After reading all the great information and comments by folks on this site, I am leaning towards not getting into truck driving. I'm 53, single, never been married, and I don't have any children but I still don't think truck driving is for me. I think one of the reasons is because of how badly truck drivers are treated in our culture--especially by the companies they work for. This thing about not being able to idle your truck when it's 105F outside is insane. Plus it is a lonely life over the road. And I don't think I'm strong enough anymore to deal with it all. I have some physical issues now. I guess that's the main reason.
But I found out that WIA would probably pay for all my training. What is the best driving school in TX? Anybody know. I reserve the right to change my mind.
Honestly, what is truck driving like?

Well I think I could qualify for WIA here in Texas which would pay for me to go to truck driving school. There aren't many good driving schools in TX though I don't think. Most are CDL mills.
At the Dillards warehouse near where I live here in Ft. Worth. I wonder how they got those trailers so close together? They aren't more than about 9 inches apart. I guess with the yard tractor.
Yard tractor I guess.
Watkins Shepard truck leaving Dillards in Ft. Worth
Truck at Sear's Parts in Ft. Worth. Looks kind of hard to get in there.

Hey Endzone, that picture you took of the girl with the pink hair is my daughters best friend!!! I have no idea what she was doing in Seattle that day but it is funny that I'd see a picture of her posted by a guy in Fort Worth. Do I have your permission to forward a copy of it?
Endzone Thanks this. -
i was at a shipper in lebanon indiana, one of the office ladies came out and told a OTR driver he cant idle in there yard...it was a good 92 degrees out
the funny part was that they had the office AC on blast, it felt like 60 degrees in there -
Yes, by all means please send it to her! I think I still have the original full size on my hard drive.

Wow, I'd really have to control myself because I'd be tempted to tell her what to do with it. See, this is one impression I get after spending time on this board--that is the general public doesn't seem to respect this profession. They probably didn't want to hear the noise in the office, but it just goes with the territory in this business. Or, maybe she was a tree-hugger.

These kids in Seattle are something. Seattle is just a liberal city politically speaking. I get a kick out of these kids, but I can't say I care for the headband there with the skulls. Anyway, I wonder how this young lady is doing now. This picture was taken 9/2/2006. Thanks.
