I pyrometer is used to measure exhaust gas temperatures of the engine. Nothing real exciting. You can place the thermocouple either pre or post turbo to read the exhaust temps coming out of the engine, of course you'll get two different readings.
The other looks like some kind of inverter. -
yip it's an inverter to convert 12 volts to 110, i'm guessing it was used to run a base cb in a truck.
on the temp meter are they still used today?
thx

Yes the pyro is still used. It's a good way to keep your fuel consumption down, if you drive by the pyro. The higher the egt's the more fuel you're using.

when your pulling a grade the pryo will tell you when your over working your engine faster than water temp/
-
Good point.

These days a turbo will not really ever get too hot and a pyro doesn't tell you much unless you develop a leak in your air to air and the engine starts to run rich then sometimes they'll get a little hot...But your engine temp will also get hotter as well because it's running rich so you would be able to tell that way too.
Intake air temps are so low these days that pyros are almost useless in most trucks...My 525 Cummins rarely ever gets warmer than 850/900 degrees even on a long hard pull.
Back in the pre air to air days it was very easy to overheat a turbo if you ran big power and you had to watch the pyro to avoid getting it too hot, In those days you could easily get them up to 1500 degrees if you weren't paying attention. -
To make it simple... a pyro is to tell you if you need a bigger turbo or not...LOL
-
I don't...I got a BIG one!
-
I tried that line too. She didn't believe me...lol
