You can claim to be a hard core capitalist and a true American all you want. In my experience, people who use the term 'fatcats' ,as you have done, and who seem preoccupied with the 'millions if not billions 'that these so called fatcats make, usually have a liberal ,anti-profit agenda.Humerox said: ↑I would have replied in kind if the comment made hadn't been so puerile, and your understanding of what I said in my original post hadn't been so skewed.
I'm a hard-core capitalist. I believe in the free-market system. So that's out of the way, right?
What I've been talking about is corporate use of government to use taxpayer money to ensure protection of a product with no benefit to the taxpayer. Would this be a true capitalistic system, there would be no such thing as intellectual copyright, savvy? Government would not protect profits for any reason.
Another thing you've obviously missed is I've never mentioned not allowing profit. I also don't believe in the illegal downloading or use of copyrighted material before it has run its due course. Profit is good.
What I'm saying is the government needs to stop using my money to protect works indefinitely. Some don't like that idea because they don't understand copyright and what it was originally intended to do.
Copyright protection should last only as long as necessary to achieve a reasonable compromise between protecting and rewarding the author for his intellectual labor and safeguarding the public interest in the dissemination of culture and knowledge.
From neither the perspective of the author nor the general public do any valid arguments exist (whether historical, economic, social or otherwise) in support of an exceedingly long term of copyright protection. While the author should be able to reap the fruits of his intellectual labor, the general public should not be deprived for an overly long period of time of the benefits of freely using those works.
Inform yourself and stop being another sheep in society. And educate yourself on the topic at hand before you start slathering and running true Americans off to Cuba...it tends to piss them off.
Edit:
I'm even going to help you understand what's happening. "Gene sequences, basic business ideas and pairs of musical notes are now owned. If jazz were invented today, it would probably be illegal. Most of 20th century culture is legally unavailable to us, and todays policies would probably have smothered the World Wide Web at its inception."

Thanks for attributing things to me upon assumption. I'm done with you, sir. Sit back in your chair and be happily uninformed, or read what I linked. You wanted reasoned argument, and when you got it you decided to continue to be argumentative.thetruthhurts said: ↑You can claim to be a hard core capitalist and a true American all you want. You're the kind of guy that would think Thomas Jefferson was a commie and unamerican. And if you don't understand what I mean...you better doggoned well read up on the issue before you start to really look bad to those that have a clue.
Anyway...I'm done. Peace. -
Simply put, you do not fit his idea of an american, so you are a commie or liberal.Humerox said: ↑Thanks for attributing things to me upon assumption. I'm done with you, sir. He does not understand the term of a free country and the right to speak your mind under the constitution.
People like him are a complete waste of time.Pur48Ted, rich_t and Texas-Nana Thank this. -
Agreed. He sounds strangely fascist doesn't he? He probably won't look it up, so:Roadmedic said: ↑Simply put, you do not fit his idea of an american, so you are a commie or liberal.

Fascists seek to organize a nation on corporist perspectives, values, and systems such as the political system and the economy.
Maybe instead of shipping me off to Cuba...we should find a way to ship him off to pre-war Germany.
Please people. There has to be balance in copyright, trademarking and patents in order for creativity, science and art to be fulfilled.
Do any of you even realize there is a patent for a fricking peanut-butter sandwich? Seriously.
United States Patent number 6,004,596 for a "Sealed CrustlessSandwich."
A sealed crustless sandwich for providing a convenient sandwich withoutfrom the surrounding peanut butter.
an outer crust which can be stored for long periods of time without a
central filling from leaking outwardly. The sandwich includes a lower
bread portion, an upper bread portion, an upper filling and a lower filling
between the lower and upper bread portions, a center filling sealed between
the upper and lower fillings, and a crimped edge along an outer
perimeter of the bread portions for sealing the fillings there between. The
upper and lower fillings are preferably comprised of peanut butter and
the center filling is comprised of at least jelly. The center filling is prevented
from radiating outwardly into and through the bread portions
If the current atmosphere had been in place in the 90's, none of us would be having this conversation because the WWW would be akin to what you see in CHINA. There would be no World Wide Web as we know it...it would all be corporate controlled and government sanctioned. (Yes I know the Chinese system is state-controlled but it amounts to the same thing in terms of freedom.)
And that my friends...is what defines fascism. (Well...toss in a bit of nationalism, anyway.)

Pur48Ted Thanks this. -
First, I did not introduce anything about idea of who is American. I suggested that America was based on capitalism, something which he seem to have a problem with. It is the great patriot who described himself as a true american. I do not know, neither do I care who or what he is.Roadmedic said: ↑Simply put, you do not fit his idea of an american, so you are a commie or liberal.

You say I don't understand the the right to speak one's mind. under the constitution. It was not I who threatened physical violence because someone said something which offended me. I guess the constitutional right to speak one's mind only applies to you and your freind. For expressing my views your friend threatened to knock me out. By the way, that has been removed by a moderator.
To my anti profit freind, the million and billion dollar grossing fatcats ,as you describe them, also pay taxes, so you wont have to bear the burden of paying to police piracy of their copywrite material But I figure that because they make millions or billions, you will think their property should somehow be allowed to be violated. -
Beats threatening physical violence, doesn't it?Humerox said: ↑Thanks for attributing things to me upon assumption. I'm done with you, sir. Some sources describe one characteristic of fascism as suppression of opposition through terror, you know, like threatening physical violence against those with opposing views, something you can relate to.Humerox said: ↑Agreed.
