You are correct but depending on the "white smoke" several factors could be in play. from the old algae laden fuel to water or worse yet a turbo going south.
Thanks for correcting me..I will reserve my comments in this thread

I've had turbos "Pop" and its a major power loss to the point of undriveable plus it will suck all the crankcase oil (Causing the smoke) and eventually if continued to be driven will lock up the motor due to lack of oil.
I don't believe his problem is that severe.I believe he has fuel issues

You don't need to get home to the dealer to get the filters, pretty much any good sized truck stop will have them at the fuel island. Since you've never done it before, you might want to take it to one with a shop. If you don't see anything before you get there, you'll be passing a Petro on 95 (exit 169 I think) in Florence, SC that has a decent shop, and I think Petro universally charges $10 to install a spin-on filter, might be worth it to watch them prime it the first time. You can also try NTTS and find someone a lot closer.

I used to run Lucas great fuel additive. As far as fuel filters I would buy them by the case cheaper that way and carry extras in the truck plus a gallon of fuel that way I could change them anytime.I had a Detriot all I needed to do was fill the new filters up all the way put them on and she was good to go.

being an 07 there can be several things. if you're equiped with a partical trap in the exhaust that may be restricting your exhaust flow. you mentioned seeing smoke question do you have a switch marked prk regen or simular. on my 08 international short trips or fuel mangement problems can get so bad that the eng. will totaly sutdown never let it get passed the warning lights(i look for them) 1st stage loss of power in stage 2 stage, 3 $$$$$. then also fuel filter can have simular effect but less $$$

If the egr sticks open it will cause a lot of power issues, if the fuel filters dont fix it have someone check the egr, also check all the suction sides of the fuel lines, and make sure it isnt sucking air, i have had the line behind the air compressor give me problems before
