great job anything over 6.85, (company goal) is great, puts you above most of the drivers on pages 1 and 2 of the seniority report, and puts you in fuel bonus territory. Thank you for your efforts

Jim glad to hear things are going so well for you. I hope you found the GP ok in VA. It is certainly out in the middle of nowhere. Just my kind of place.

I got my MPG up to 6.6 this time around. I was proud of that b/c I had 2 injectors drop and idle time is up to 20%. It has been HOT in some places in the south.

I went into the AK steel in Middletown OH and ended up sitting for 19 hours just waiting to get loaded. That stuff only happens on the load that will get you home.

One time I got a load on the QC and as I pulled up on the scale at the shipper I got a beep. I grabbed it and looked at it and the load had been canceled and I had to go somewhere else to load..That's trucking!

Congrats on being so successful with Mav. They have been a great company for me so far also and I would highly recommend anyone looking into flatbedding to go check them out.

I see a lot of guys cutting corners out there and not double tarping, not using coil blocks, not making sure that you have the straps not only covering the length requirements, but covering the weight also. I see a LOT of people hauling plate steel and not using front AND rear x chains.

I figure that MAV has invested a lot of money into checking this stuff out and they know a whole lot more than me about the "why's" of what we do.

Keep up the good work and the positive attitude and you will do great.

If you need anything just call,

    Dave

    Have a great 4th!

I won't change my profile as I am still learning everyday. :)

Have a great 4th too. I am going to try to drive home today but won't make it until 1am

As for looking out for each other, That was the main reason that I choose Flatbed at the first place. We are a group of people that are ready to work our butts off in all weather conditions to make it happens.

People are complaining about the new CSA2010 with points for drivers but I don't think it is a bad idea after all. This way Drivers that don't report or fix trailers will get hit and won't probably last long under those new conditions.

This would means less bad trailers at drop lots.

You are on my speed dial...lol
I have found that when I try to rush things then something always comes up that slows me down. I have been trying to drive most of the time at 55. When I want to get there sooner, I go 59. That is where the truck runs at 1350 rpm. As I stated earlier, I will go 65 when I am empty to get to a place before my time runs out. But I always follow that up with going back down to 55 the next load to make up for it.
I will idle the truck when I need to when tarping so I can keep cool and not faint.
The wet wash cloth kept in the refrigerator is the best idea anyone has given me. It feels so good!
In the evening, I will Idle the truck and sub cool the cab. I then shut it down and have my fan blowing on me in the sleeper. That usually does the trick. When it was 100 during the day last week, I had to restart the truck at night two times for about 10 minutes to sub cool it again.
Once the temp drops, either put my screens in or just keep the cab closed up. By morning I am usually turning off the fan because I am cold.
I do not take any shortcuts on the tarping or securements. I will also add extra.
Last week I had five coils and the lightest one was 7000. I had it in the front. All it needed was one chain on it. I had it on good and tight at the 6 o'clock position. I kept looking at it and just did not like only having one chain on it. They were loaded eyes to the side.
So I put a strap on at the 8 0'clok position on that coil and the other coil that only had one chain on it.
It just gave me that added peace of mind.
I really appreciate all of the help and encouragement that you have offered me. It helps knowing that there are knowledgeable drivers out there that you can call. I know I can call Maverick, but I prefer to call outside of the establishment.
I will call them if need be though!
Have a great 4th and God Bless America!:occasion4:

Made it to/thru orientation; top notch, very thankful/blessed that I chose Maverick and that they chose me; just read what JimTheHut has posted; spot on, cant add anymore.

Started securement traing; very good, and I am thankful for that. On July the 3rd my mother unexpectadly passed away. I did not find out until after training that day; upon finding out I went and told the instructers of what had happened. Mavericks biggest concern was that without delay that I made it back home to be with family during this time.

They let me know very quick that my job/completion of training would be waiting for me when my and the needs of my family were met during this time; during orientation they spoke a lot about values; well I can speak from experiance; those were not words just spoken; as the saying goes "actions speak louder than words"; Maverick I and my family thank you.

Well I will heading back to Little Rock this weekend to finish securement training and then get a trainer and start putting it all to work.

I will give thanks in advance for any condolances that will follow; all is well here as me and family are Christians and put all of our faith and trust in Jesus Christ and know that he knows exactly what he is doing and needs to be done; thank you Jesus Christ.

keep us in your prayers and for my success with Maverick.

May God Bless each and every of you and all of your goings and comings until the Lords calling or coming.

75th, Sorry to hear about your loss. I can honestly say that maverick will go out of their way for a driver. I did not have any deaths in the family when I was with them. My daughter did break her leg and need surgery. I had just kicked off and reloaded in dallas tx. They told me head to the yard. (on the way home) when I got there I sent a message on yard and went to look for my FM. Not only was my FM looking for something to get me home so was the the other FM's around my FM's desk.

They got a load and wanted to know if I could del it on the way and then bounce home. I had time to do so before the surgery and took it and ran with it. They bounced me home after I kicked it off and paid me to bounce. I had another time I got home and had a water leak in the bathroom. I was under a load for a early mon delivery to chicago. I called in and told them I needed to fix this. They said no problem and sent me a empty trailer to my house. Told me to take as long as I needed. I took a week and tore the whole floor out and ended up redoing the whole bathroom.

Also my place got caught in the ice storm that hit a couple winters back. Did a lot of damage. When it got nice, I took off for that too. Re-roofed my place and did some other stuff. No problem.

Another time I was about 8-10 hours away from home. Was my load to go home for thanksgiving. The crane broke and they said it will be monday before we can load you. I called in. They said let us see if we can find you another load. They sent me a message shortly go home. I sent back you realize where I am and where home is right? They sent back yes, go enjoy your meal with your family. Paid to bounce home.

Maverick is a top shelf co. I know of no other co that says they care about their drivers needs and then proves it.:biggrin_25514: Now if you are out and can't get a swap home that week. It happens, but if you have something that comes up trust me they do what they can.
