I am looking for a truck driver heading to California that is willing to allow my black lab (Shadow) to ride shotgun. We are loosing our house to foreclosure and are having to move into an apartment for a year that will not accept him because of his size, so he is going to live with our family out there and we are desperate need to get him there.
We have checked into flying him out but in the summer months this is almost impossible and the cost is outrageous. We are willing to pay to insure his safe travel. This would be a great way for any truck drivers on that route to make a easy buck, that wouldn't mind having a buddy along for the ride. Please let me know if you are interested in helping us out.

He will need to go to the San Francisco/Oakland/Sacramento area hopefully by the end of July. Please let us know if you are interested.

I wish I could help you, but I don't ever get to Georgia. I normally go to Cali from the St. Louis, MO area.

You might want to try to contact your local Lab rescue society. I am not suggesting to surrender him, but they deal with transporting animals across country for both rescue and adoption. Often they set up a relay, where people just drive part of the way and hand the pet off to the next driver.

I don't have dedicated route, I drive where I am being sent. While I go to Cali, I have no control to where. I carry my own dog, but there is always room for another one, and of course he would have to get to me here, I can't go there.

I hope that the local rescue society can help. I belong to a Golden Retriever message board and believe me, they produce miracles at times.

    Good luck to you.

Have you thought of finding another place, pay extra deposit, beg and plead with the landlord? Bribery? Don't give up yet, you never know, and there must be an affordable place with a more liberal pet policy.

    www.brookledge.com ... for starters

While they are a nationwide equine transport, they MAY be willing to place your dog on a run to California for a reasonable fee as long as he's a good passenger, doesn't require meds and doesn't require too much fussing over. Same for Bob Hubbard. Give them a call. They have too much too look after with a full load of horses & nursing foals to be worrying about a dog on board...but if your dog is a good passenger, they may do it. Horse folks are generally "dog folk". Brookledge has an office in Ocala and they make atleast two layovers to the west coast, likely three in the summer. IF Brookledge is unable to accomodate you, try Bob Hubbard. If they are unable, I can about guarantee you there IS some smaller rig/local one man operation hauling coast to coast will make space for your dog and they would likely be the most reasonable in price. It's simply a matter of you doing the legwork and making those calls. There are alot of smaller operators in your neck of the woods and a visit to a local farm supply store in your area will provide you with some names of coast to coasters.

Get on some "horse forum" boards and I can about guarantee you'll get hooked up.

I wish you all the best. If all else fails, I googled "Dog Transport" and found several choices. Good Luck with everything.
