Kids take naps, they dont stay up late at night (or at least they shouldnt) and if your relationship is not strong enough to deal with this issue then trucking is not for you and your family....trucking is a lifestyle, NOT a job. It is something that the whole family has to adjust to and it does get to be more routine and not so scarey after a few months.

It takes to strong people to make a relationship work where one is a truck driver. Many sacrifices have to be made in order to make it work. The Internet thing is a great way to stay in touch. far as home time and sleeping, well it does seem once you get home all your body wants to do is sleep. Taking "GOOD" vitamins and keeping in shape helps this. Far as the vitamins go its more of a trial and error, cause one vitamin brand does not always work for everybody.

This is my opinon, when one get married it is upto both to keep things working. This would include taking "every step" possible before one decides it is over. Thats the problem today people just don't seem to try hard enouph to make things work. Just keep searching for new ways to keep things going.

Would a wireless card have a faster connection than a cellphone, or would they pretty much be the same?

no offense taken. like any marriage/divorce, many contributing factors, but i will say the biggest problem for us was finances. my ex had absolutely NO self-control on the road (or at home, for that manner). and he gave no thot to bills i was getting at home while he was gone. then he'd come home and be shocked. he'd try once in a while (leave checkbook home, give me his debit card...) but after a few days or a week, he'd just get an advance and buy anything shiny (i came to HATE chrome shops!!!), had 500 lights on his truck, had to have most powerful CB booster or whatever. it just never stopped. my advice... be sure you & your husband are clear on a budget. home-based marriages fall prey to financial discord easy enough... but when he's away and doesn't have to be accountable for his spending decisions on a daily/weekly basis, it can go into a downward spiral incredibly fast. (not that i don't think there aren't wives out there shopping their hearts out selfishly... i just wasn't one of them.)

remarkably enough, we got along great when i rode along with him. guess it wasn't quite "real;" all the bills, collection notices, etc were at home, ya know? fortunately, my kids were older and realized i wasn't responsible for always having to say "no." at least i didn't come out of the marriage without my children's respect. and that's worth more than any bank account to me!

hope i haven't rambled too much. but i think it's important you hear negatives, as well as positive and encouragement. i know i'd rather be aware and prepared. makes it easier to catch things early and try different solutions to a problem.

keep your head up... like it's been said before here, a lot of things will work themselves out with a little time.

Wireless card is alot faster. it is high speed. the cell phone thing is only about 4x faster than dialup but you can use it anywhere the phone works and not just in a truckstop. Plus these truckstops wifi access is very expensive unless you pay by the year and then you can only use it at that perticular truck stop chain.

I'd like to know the cell phone trick. is it bluetooth mabey? :thumbleft:

my almost 4yo has been remarkably good about it. I stayed local untill recently but the money just isn't there locally. One thing I notice though is that when I come home he is VERY posesive of his mother. he get super jelous even when we just try to talk. he needs all the attention.
This week I was out a few days longer than normal since I was shut down in WY because of weather. When I got to the shop last night they came to get me and nothing is better than the feelign you get when your little boy is yelling DADDY!! and running into your arms. excuse me while I cry now

You probably have o idea just how common that is. I see so many gues who spend and spend on the road with no regard to there family at home eating beans and rice and living with the utilities getting shut off all the time
