I5 SB near PYRAMID LAKE currently closed due 2 Tractor trailers got into it also sparking brush fire on top of truck accident. What a way to start the week. Just opened 1 lane. Norco Ranch trailer trailer was all I could ID now.

Another case of following too close, Drivers don't get it yet... This is what happens when you plan poorly, get in a hurry, tailgate, and then someone hits there brakes... Back off and live..

    CHP Dispatch Data to follow
    Both driver are OK.

Middle of the down hill into Castaic, you know where drivers complain about, This hill is nothing, well 2 more driver found that not to be true. Slow down before you start down the hill and then you have brakes when you need them. This is totally preventable. The 40 mph limit is the for a reason.

Fiery Big Rig Crash Jams I-5 near Castaic

Southbound traffic was down to just two lanes.

[IMG] Two big rigs crashed along southbound Interstate 5 near Castaic and then caught fire. (KTLA-TV / July 12, 2010)

CASTAIC -- A fiery crash involving two big rigs caused a major traffic jam and a small brush fire along Interstate 5 in the Castaic area Monday.

The crash was reported around 6 a.m. in the southbound lanes near Templin Highway.

One big rig rear-ended another and both erupted into flames, according to California Highway Patrol officer Patrick Kimball.

The flames quickly spread to a refrigerated trailer, which was believed to be hauling eggs.

Nearby brush also caught fire but the blaze was contained to about a quarter of an acre, Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Frank Reynoso told KTLA.

    No injuries were reported.

The fire was under control within a half hour.

Southbound traffic along the 5 was backed up for miles with just two lanes open, Kimball said. The lanes were expected to remain closed until at least 8 a.m.

The cause of the crash is under investigation....

we have always been funny about another truck being too close behind us....I have been known to take an exit if I cant get someone off of me...(if slowing down etc doesnt work).....It cant be said enough....SLOW DOWN AND BACK OFF...the life you take may be MORE than your own...

I can't count the times I've been tailgated going down that very hill. For some reason, whenever I cross the California border, I suddenly get trucks roll up on my rear, get about ten feet from my DOT bumper and then decide to pop into the next lane and pass me. And I'm usually already speeding...between 58 and 61 mph. Yes, I do speed on occasion. I've never said I don't.

However, the Castaic area and Grapevine, I will go the posted speed and no faster. If y'all want a ticket, go on ahead and pass me, but you can't push me down the hill. I'm really good at ignoring you except that I open up a lot more space in front of me so I have more time to slow both of us down if something happens.

Interesting how they happened to end up back door to back door. It almost looks like they are getting ready to cross-load. Except for the fire and the damage of course. . .:biggrin_25524::biggrin_25524:
