I call em drop decks as that is what I pull but some call them step decks.

They really are the same thing...

Here is a link to some illustrations and names of flats..http://www.acmetruck.com/html/truckinventory.html

Yes you can say stepdeck or dropdeck. Then you have detach/gooseneck lowboy or double drop. Mostly use to haul heavy equipment.

    20 Minutes? Are you sure?

Is that like fitted tarps on plywood?[/QUOTE]

Its any full load with 2 8ft drop tarps takes me less than 20 minutes either end to tarp and untarp ,not bragging its just what i can do it in dont get me wrong some days its takes longer but for the most part around 20 minutes.

I got a system down and make every move count, but I know 2 lumber tarps are going to take me longer than 20 minutes to do it right. Heck it takes me about 10 minutes to roll them out and pin each end. Not counting hooking bungees on each D ring...:biggrin_2556:

For a true flatbeder tarping is not bad. Once you get your rhythm down. You can do it the same way each time and get better and better at it. Then in no time you will be good at it.

if you haul for a cheap company like lj kennedy, who has lumber tarps with bungee's permanently attached, than you can do a flat load in 20 minutes, no problem.

unfold/unroll, hook all 8 corners, and your 9/10ths of the way done. unless your load is only 3 feet high, then it sucks because it takes you longer to wrestle all the extra overhang underneath in a way that the wind wont catch. that BLOWS. but a load of regular square lumber is easy.
