I have 4 yrs. with new century. Was good for first 2 yrs. then down hill from there! Seems they care more about keeping the teams moving and happy and the heck with the single drivers. Get empty in midwest and it is go pick up this load, after loaded oh take it to the drop yard and get an m/t and beep us. You just picked up the teams load so they can drop and hook. Or relay this load to this team then sit until morning and wait to unload their load. God forbid don't make a team sit at a warehouse to unload. Get a backhaul into NJ. PA. or NY. and then you are an instant GOPHER! You'll be doing pick ups to take to the yard so they don't have to pay the local guys by the hour. You get paid stops and miles to beat around the cities. You loose! To top that off if you get hurt on the job like I did out of their stupity and negligence thy will kick you to the curb! I have offered to run team or do relays to drop yards, but they say that is favortism and we can't cater to one person even though they admitted it was their fault. So now I am job searching to find a no touch driving position. THANKS NEW CENTURY FOR CARING!

Mushroom, I'll be joining you over at New Century probably within the next month. They are interested in having me come over there and I can't pass up the chance of better pay and benefits and better equipment. Sounds like they are keeping you fairly busy and the pay sounds good.

    Hey Looney Tune.

Couple of things to beware of with NC is dispatch is a real pain in the butt! They don't know how to utilize a drivers hrs. Let's say you are heading to the terminal and have to take your 10 hr. break 3 hrs. out. When you get to the yard and have 10 hrs. left on the books and it is 8:00 am 95% of the time you will sit at the yard until after 10 pm before you are dispatched out. Once in awhile you might get lucky and they will hand you something to go with. Not often. I always offered, but still spent many days sitting in the yard. Their truck maintenance SUCKS! They do oil change at 50,000 miles if you are lucky. You will here get in when you get back there are 9 or 10 ahead of you. Once my truck was not serviced for 68,000 miles. My biggest complaint is the way dispatch figures delivery times. They have a guarantee policy if not on time no delivery charges. They will hand you a load at let's say 2300 with a 0700 del. and you need 7+ hours. to drive to get it there on time. But you still have to find trl. fuel scale, pre trip and hope it scles out and still get there . Don't even think about stopping to crap or get a coffe! I got wrote up once when my truck was in the shop all day for service(no place to sleep) then handed a guarantee for 0900 Jamestown,Ny. I told with no sleep I wasn't sure i could make it. Was told to take and go and they would take care of del. time. Well I didn't get there until 1030 and all Hell broke loose. I was called by everyone from dispatch to the head of human resources to driver relations. Even the night dispatcher called me from his home thanking me for the butt chewing he got because I didn't get the load there. After that I told them if I didn't feel I had the time or proper sleep to take a guarantee load I would not go. I feel on the guarantee loads they should have a Driver leave with a 2-3 hour cushion. They still think they own you though. Even with all sour grapes I would still consider staying, but they are kicking out due to my workers comp. injury saying I can no longer do the job. I don't know how much things have changed in last 10 months but I have heard that no excuses on logs anymore. As far as how many stops per week, most loads anywhere fro 6 to 10 stops per load. Alot of 2 day delivery loads until empty. Good luck to ya!

Well well... looks like my terminal manager wasn't lying after all. They turned down our trucks to 65 (Superior Carriers). Kinda sux the whole fleet gettin' turned down for few of our tankers going up there.

Road charger, I'll tell you the same thing that I told drivers on my Marten thread: let's wait and see how I do before everyone starts telling me how awful they are and how miserable I will be. Sorry to hear about your situation but again let's wait and see how I do before we just assume it won't work out.

Nothing really happened Hillbilly. I'm leaving them on good terms... this is a much bigger increase in pay over Marten. Just couldn't pass it up.

    outerspacehillbilly Thanks this.

    Hey Looneytune

I never said it wasn't going to work out for you or that you would be miserable there! I was just trying to make you aware of some of the things to look out for. If it works out for you, GREAT. Just some of the dispatchers are very hard nosed. If they would work with me once I get released from my doctor I would stick around. Everbody has to make their own decision if good or bad. Heck, I thought when I went there 4 yrs. ago this is where I would retire from! Have fun and be SAFE!
