Big Ray - they typically do not check on the experience side of things however you do have to have a class A for two + years if you are going to claim experience. Keep in mind if you are found at fault in a major accident they will go back to the application and investigate your "experience" and can essentially not pay the claim by proviing you lied on the application. Ins. companies have unlimited financial resources to investigate stuff. Most fender benders they probably will not look too hard but like I said a major claim will be investigated pretty heavily before any payment is sent out. Just my .02 on this.

Emmanuel - look into Great West for a package deal ( Liability, Physical Damage, Cargo ) and I would recommend HNOA and GL coverage as well. Also Northland is pretty competitive and is a Travelers company however they did have an 8% increase last month - give or take.
Maybe RLI if you are running under 100,000 miles per year..... -
So here's a question. These O/O's paying 4K+ for insurance, are they under their own authority? If I was to lease on to Landstar, isn't most of the insurance covered under them using the percentage of the revenue they keep?
I only need Unladen Liability for the truck (possibly through Landstar?), and workman's comp (which is through Landstar) for my person, correct? -
Hello. i would like to know if any body knows if i need insurance to tag my trailer?i just bought the trailer only.

Actually if you talk to those companies who have been in business for some time (at least 5-6 years) they all will tell you that the money is within the 500 mile radius. 99 percent of established transportation companies work within 500 mile radius. You as an owner operator or a small fleet owner will never be able to compete with the rates Swift or CR England offer to shippers. Those companies can drive freight for much cheaper than you will ever be able to. I promise you, if you stay within 500 miles you will make much more money than long haul.
Grant Industrial Trans, Fiddle Sticks and Dubwise Thank this. -

I was talking to a broker today looking to sign on. When he Informed me I needed to carry One Hundred Thousand in cargo Insurance. I currently have only Twenty Five Thousand.
My Questions Are,
Is a Hundred Thousand the normal with any broker?
Can any one name a Broker that does not have such high Insurance requirements? -
100,000 is normal some require less but not many
