I'm still running on about month 2 hauling beer. Something changed a bit because I started with rocking mileage and then it's been a really good week or a really bad week. I'm still making money as a L/O which is good. Unfortunately, I've had a really good paycheck that I have yet to reach again.
I was stuck up in New England for the past week. The same thing happened two weeks ago. I get loaded in Golden, go to Camp Hill. Then I do a bunch of short runs for the rest of the week until the following weekend. On Friday I get some effed up CHR load getting me halfway back to Denver. This is followed by another crappy load that gets me the rest of the way. On an up-note, I think CHR has to have a line on all of the lightest loads. I went from Maine to Minnesota with a 3,000 lb load. To get me back to Denver, I get another load grossing at 3,000 lb. I only say this is an up-note because my fuel mileage is rockin'. The downside to this load is that it doesn't deliver until thursday which means that unless I get a trailer number for my preset, I won't be dropping it and I'm wasting another day in Denver. And I don't know what it is about Denver but I loathe going there.
I had a forklift driver put three holes in the roof of my trailer. I lost an entire day of driving because it happened when the trailer repair place was closed. The way my hours fell, I couldn't make the delivery the following day as planned. So I get the trailer repaired. It takes about an hour to seal and screw on patches to the roof. I go get loaded and do my following load no problem. My next load was a CHR load and I didn't throw on a seal on it because it was nothing but rubber mats and I forgot. I go to the truck stop and catch some sleep for the night.
In the morning I go out and I'm waiting for the dog to do her thing. I decide to check on the load because I didn't seal it. I open the door and my eyes are watering, I'm heaving and spitting all over the place. It almost feels like my lungs are collapsing. My dog was standing 6 feet away and she was wheezing hard.
So lesson learned. When getting a patch put on a truck and they use a silicone adhesive/sealant, and the temperature outside gets pretty high, and the seals on the doors are pretty good, chances are you are cooking up a nice toxic soup of chemicals in the box. I made sure to stop every two hours and open a door up to vent it all out. By the time I delivered, the smell was still present but not at the choking, vomit inducing levels they were when I initially opened her up.
On an off-subject note, I see Crete put their pay-scale back into place. I've got them in the back of my head for end of lease time. -
Take a jacket with a hood also, this is a reefer outfit afterall.

We've been with Central over 3 years. They haven't been bothering us lately, but it used to be 2-3 times a week. They'd send the same message multiple times, screw up our names, etc. I finally shot them a "leave us alone" qualcomm and then it lessened, and eventually tapered off.

I'm heading down there on Sunday for the school that starts on Monday the 26th. Any advise you can give?

hello everyone i leave tomorrow and i have a 36" and a 26" dufflebags as well as a backpack will this all be to much for the tractor while im with my driver trainer?
-
depends on the trainer. most shouldnt mind, but if you bring it, you better not mind sleeping with it. when i was on my trainers trk, thats where everything was, on my bunk. you have to keep in mind that most of these drivers have there trk set up the way they like it, as they dont always have a student. plan on maybe 1-2 small spots in the cupboard and the rest in your bed.

good thing I'm short

if you need cheap food for when you are poor and broke, like most central drivers and all newbies, get cans of soup and ramon noodles. campbells has a lot of different stuff like steak and chicken that can be filling, but if you add the noodles without the flavor packet, it will fill you up a lot more. total cost is about $2. peanutbutter and jelly works well, but jelly only will last about 2 weeks if not in fridge.
galloways Thanks this.
