I do plan on going to my local CC for my CDL, but the wait will be too long before the next set of classes Nov/ Dec. I want to go ahead and apply for different companies with their own school. What will be a good carrier with their own school?

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.
Decent companies with their own school.

So far, I can tell you that if you go to a school that you DONT pay for, you will be looking at a 12 month sign on with thier sponsors. IF you, "for any reason" washout, you will be responsible for the cost of the school.
You need to look for tuition assistance that does not obligate you to a long period of service at the company's discretion, with a penalty hanging over your head (I just feel that with all the hazards out there, the idea that I pay for "any reason" I might wash out, is a little too much liaibility).
Do your research, ask questions - SPECIFIC qustions. take notes on the answers, and compare your options carefully.
There is good money to be made, but in my opinion, you MUST approach your entry into transportation like any other business deal - expect the worst and ASK QUESTIONS.
Thats what I have found out so far. -
Watkins and Shepard, I have heard only positives about their 30 day school. Call Roxy and say CAGE send you, she will let you know when the next 30 day is. I have been with them for 5 weeks now plenty of miles, things are awesome.
Good Luckdark_reaper Thanks this. -
I have looked at W&S and was recomended by another friend, but my problem is that I live in NE Florida up in Jacksonville, and their closest terminal is in Dalton, GA which is a good 7 hour drive from where I live. But I have alot of family in Franklin, NC so I guess it wont be to much of a problem, but all of my friends are here. But I will call them when I get a chance.

I just find it funny on all these different threads how drivers tell people to never go with a company that you have to sign a contract with to pay for your school or you will be on the hook to pay it back if for some reason you dont make it the first year. The last time I checked if you go to school on your own you still have to pay for it!!!!!! Just sayin...
johnday and Texas-Nana Thank this. -
You ever compare the price of the school with the market? When you bail some tack it up even more.
Also the co knows they have you under the thumb and some will dump on you knowing you have few options at this point.

either way it must be paid back thats what I am saying just go to there school if you chose but tell them you will get it financed your self but I was lucky never had to go to school!!
