Must be nice. All our overages and damaged stuff was shipped to an outfit up north that would try to sell it. Company I worked for was a good company, but they sure wouldn't do anything that could encourage drivers or dock hands to "accidentally" damage stuff.

I did have my own tractor assigned though. Most of the time anyway. Seems like no other driver wanted to follow behind my cigars in a truck. I just can't understand that!:biggrin_2559:

Anyway, we all had our assigned tractors, baring some type of problem.

Years ago with gasoline the stations would have lock boxes and the drivers carried the key. We were allowed to drop on drop of product if the station had not paid for it. Now when you insert your card at the rack the computer does all the work unless that station is put on COD. The computer checks is bank account and when you done loading the computer takes that money right out of his account.

We had a few stations that were COD. A couple of them we knew they were going out of business. But some others they jusy didn't make their deposit in time. Most all of all station were open round the clock but we had one that wasn't and you guess it he was on COD. So he had to use the lock box.

Our policy was if the truck pulls in the station and theres no check in the box the driver must wait 5 minutes then go. I'v had the owners chasing me down the street but sorry I have no time. At the other stations there would be people there but I'd have 100 money orders to pay for the load. We'd take that if the guys were decent to us. But most of the time the money order was there and the owner took care of us.

It's just amazing what the computer checks when you put you card into the rack. It checks the customer, truck, license, permits, test dates, drivers license, medical card, and other law which would allow you not to drive. I've pull up and go the card going and it came back that the dealer was broke and i was to go to another station. In the old dayd you have to count money and credit card slips. That's not for me.

Everyone at my terminal has A/C except for yard jockeys. Line haul units all have A/C and then eventually get handed down to local peddle drivers like myself.

I will be glad when my terminal gets new trucks , they told me our tm is keeping most of the old ones so when it comes around for new tractors we would be first choice ... well I will settle for a 00 volvo with ac now ..
