What kind of miles are you getting out there average per week? I need to know if TMC is worth the money and the pay. I know there pay is pretty good but what about the miles. How about in the OTR part instead of the regional guys.

Since no one else has replied, I'll have a [long-winded] go at it, even though I suppose I may be considered regional, as I generally stay in the SE. I'm supposed to be on a dedicated acc't, but I take whatever load they send me.
Over the last 21 working days (M-F) I've averaged 448 mi/day. In the same time period there have been 3 days that I didn't have a load to deliver. Two were for service/breakdown issues, and I was paid $50/each for those. The other was for a true layover (no load to pick up til next morning). I expect I'll be paid $50 on that one too (I was w/old dispatchateer), but have not got the check to say one way or the other yet.
Bring home pay -
(after taxes and all deductions [Single person insurance, no 401K]):
w/my previous dispatcher: $674/wk. That is a 13 wk average.
w/my new dispatcher: $629/wk. That is a 10 wk average. [yes, I still have hope that new dispatcher will get the hang of things soon, and to give credit where due... he is improving... slowly]
TMC hired me w/no experience; right out of "truck driving school", and as green as they come. I'm thankful for that. I've learned a lot in the last couple of years, but I know I have a lot left still to be learned. I've screwed up a few times (nothing real serious), but they have been more than fair w/me. Others have not been as lucky as me, apparently, but you can hear all sorts of BS.
Overall, I can't (in good conscience) say anything really bad about TMC, from my personal experience. They have their "quirks" & "weird policies", as all companies do. There are many things about them that don't make me happy, but they are not, or at least have not YET, become big enough issues for me send in my resignation letter (which is already printed out & clipped to a stamped&addressed envelope, that I carry in my briefcase).
The Office People in Des Moines do seem to regularly develop an attitude ON THE PHONE, but I've never had any problem when there in person. Actually, I've not really had much problem on the phone either, as I can "develop an attitude" just as quick as the next guy. I certainly keep it professional & respectful, as my phone (like any other) has the ability to record conversations.
Bottom Line: if you need the experience, TMC will give you the needed training to do it the right way. That 2 week orientation is not wasted time, as you will learn something new, and there are many worse places to start out at. I talk to other flat-bedders every week, thinking I'll find a better deal, and the more I talk to the other flat-bedders, the more I understand that... well, maybe this deal I got going ain't so bad.
Now let me say this [DISCLAIMER]: I am NOT a cheerleader for TMC. I am only relating MY experience w/them. YOUR mileage may vary; figuratively & literally. But, IF I WERE to find a better deal tomorrow, I'd at least be double-checking the spilling in my regnisation letter.Last edited: Jul 24, 2010
sweetangel and bonbonsron Thank this. -
ask for Chris Lappe, he's pretty good. actually cares about his drivers. tell him Ryan sent you, we used to get along pretty well. my old trainer runs hard, but was making a fortune with Chris.
after having worked for them for 2 years, the biggest difference between TMC and my new company is that they work with me, and TMC always seemed to be working against me.
I went home for the night and my truck was broken into and the trailer stolen earlier this week, management praised me for following procedure and assisting in the investigation, whereas TMC would have tried to find any reason to blame it on me and terminate me. -
Hey carter can you PM me the dispatchers info so I can get him as mine. If he runs you that hard I want him finding me loads and I want to work with him.
