I try to give myself an hour to find a Safe Haven. You would think that would be plenty of time. Not always for this new driver. Any tips and/or suggestions would be appreciated

Kinda why I drive 8-5 now LOL !! Truck stops fill up fast . I hate truck stops but alot of states are making it illegal to park on shoulders.

Interstates generally have rest areas, some guys actually prefer them. Using the CB to ask local drivers "break 19 for local info" will usually result in decent info. Even asking while your eating dinner at the truck stop the day before might result in a nice safe place to hide out. Ask the receiver too, they generally know where the big trucks can hide out prior to unloading. If I am not given a phone number to the receiver I always adamantly request one.
If you have a GPS you can Google; Truck POI's and hopefully hook up with somebody that's put together a file of places you frequent.Woodport Thanks this. -
Buy a "Truckers Best Friend" guide book ... got em at all the big boys pilot, loves, ta. Gives truck stop locations city and hwy based. Local info is better, but planning your trip based on given stops makes life easier.

Where do you usually run? When i did OTR i would start looking 2hrs before max driving hours were up.
i would say it's easier the farther west you go (not always) and a little more difficult the more east you are.
