Hi all, the majority of what I have read tells me that going to a community college/technical school for training is the best choice. I do not have the money on hand to pay for it and wanted to know if Financial Aid is possible for a trucking school. I am considering Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton Wisconsin. This is a small blurb on their site:

The Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC) truck driving programs and staff are members of the Wisconsin Motor Carriers Association (WMCA) and the National Association of Publicly Funded Truck Driving Schools (NAPFTDS). Our ten-week truck driving program is also certified by the Professional Truck Driving Institute (PTDI).

I am in the process of getting signed up for a local 6 week program at a community college.
I did not want to indenture myself for 12 months by getting "free" school, by a company, just too risky.

You have to go to the school and ask questions, also go to the state department of unemployment and see what they offer.
You might be plesantly surprised and get your schooling paid for.

    Good luck.

    Hi Teddy Salad,

I'm currently looking for the same thing and think that I have found it with the Workforce Investment Act (WIA)... basically if you've been laid-off, had your job outsourced to another location, are collecting unemployment, or are making less than a certain amount (household total) the gov't will pay for your training. I intend to apply later today if possible and if I don't get it the first go around, i'll apply for food stamps and hope that helps my chances... from what I understand your best bet is to schmooze your counselor and appear as needy as possible...

    Teddy Salad Thanks this.

Thank you. If you could keep me posted on how the WIA worked out for you I would be very grateful. I will go to the Employment office and get some more information. Again, thank you. If anyone else has good advice, I will keep checking this post..hourly.
