It's easy enough to add a wireless mouse to your laptop. I've had mine for darn near 10 years now, and never have gotten comfortable with the touch pad. But the added mouse is great. I also added a keyboard, after I started using this as my ONLY computer. It's just easier on the wrists, IMHO.

How about telling us what it is you find so undesirable about the terms? WHAT DID I MISS?:smt017

Don't buy an ACER or a Compact they suck, I've had them both. ACER is by far the worst I've had, I'm in the market for a laptop myself.

I don't buy consumer class laptops. I buy business class. For example, the Dell Latitude instead of the Inspiron sold in stores, Toshiba Tecra instead of the Satellite. Those two models are sturdier, built to take a beating, and really don't cost any more than the counterparts found in stores. They are usually leased out to the corporations, and because of this, they have interchangable parts. That way an IT guy can pull a DVD drive or an LCD screen off of a 3 year old Latitude and put it on a newer one. That translates to cheap replacement parts on Ebay so I can keep my laptop around long after the warranty runs out. As far as I know, you can only order them online.

Acer laptops are garbage, save your money. I had an Acer laptop and the hard drive died after a year and 1 month. After googling "how to replace your hard drive", I found a video that showed me how to do it, step by step. I purchased a 250 gig from Tiger Direct for $79.00, and had my laptop fixed in 15 minutes. Acers are notorious for failing hard drives. I purchased a laptop from Walmart a few months ago for $375.00, and it's running great. I think it's a Compac. Has a disc drive, writes and plays DVD's, CD's, and came loaded w/ Windows 7. You can find some good deals out there, just look around.

Hard drives are hard drives. There are only about 3-4 makers of them, and in Acer's defense, they don't make hard drives, they purchase them and put them in your laptop. Hard drives, no matter who makes them have a bad infancy mortality rate, meaning about a third of them will fail in the first 6 months to a year.

I wouldn't buy a laptop from walmart considering what they've done in the past with replacing internal parts on electronics with cheaper ones. I got my HP from Best Buy and it's still running strong after nearly a year bouncing around in the truck.

Chrome looks nice but my roomate installed it the other day and ended up with a bad virus within an hour. He had to reload his machine to get rid of it. He's not one of those guys to browse porn or warez sites where you usually catch those things either. He's actually an IT guy so for him to have to reload the machine it had to be a bad one.

Ok my 2 cents. 10 + years as a network engineer Acer is a mid level machine that is really for a home user if that is you good Hp is a bit better quality except at Wal Mart! as we all know big w has vendors down grade equipment to get the lowest price possible. you will save maybe 10 percent from Best Buy or others and maybe none if you catch the sales right. Now on the other side why would you support a company that is killing our way of life for the all mighty dollar! I mean they pay minimum wage for anybody that walks thru the door run the small business's out of towns. I say find a small pc shop near home buy a major brand Laptop with an extended warranty spend a little more help a family get by and get a better machine! I'm off the box now.
