Just starting out and have a year to weigh the pros and cons if we want to be O/O or continue to drive for the company hubby went to school. Times are tough and this is a whole new ball game.. Good company but looking at more $ per mile and if there is that possibility to make more money or if those day's are gone!![]()

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

You're gettin too far ahead of yourself here. "just starting out"? He doesn't even know if he likes trucking yet or not. Give it a year and then start thinking about it. And please realize that theres a LOT of scams out here...
I'm a company driver and have a lot of the perks that people buy their own trucks to get. My company is laid back and doesnt mess with me, I can fuel anywhere that takes the comdata card (darn near EVERY truck stop......), my truck is governed at 79 MPH (thats all you need lol), and i get paid on a percentage (i get a slice of the pie on good loads), and hourly on any local load (less than 250 miles) unless percentage would pay me more. I drive for a small fleet affiliated with Quality Carriers.
If you run o/o with most companies, you're going to end up making less or the same as a company driver. Just do your research..SWEET TATTER Thanks this. -
He has driven before and just went back to school to drive again after 17 years, like you say, research...That's basically what I'm doing, a lot has changed since 93"..

I just went O/O after 12 years of company driving. The freight rates in the oilfield and the abundance of used trucks was too good to pass up. I got good rates on insurance through Lloyd's of London and a great truck from Southwest International in Dallas. Had to buy my trailer from Freightliner but it worked out ok. I am really enjoying it so far.
SWEET TATTER Thanks this. -
Good luck and thanks for the reply..
