Not sure why so many Balk at a Truck costing 40k with such low mileage.

Hell a nice dually pickup cost that much. Are trucks different somehow that I miss? I could afford a 40k Car right now at my current job , how much can it be , 250 a week? I could buy that truck and park it in my back yard while paying it off.

Really am asking this seriously too.
Isn't a truck payment the same as a car payment?

$40K for that FL is too much... truck prices are at or near all time lows... find one for sale by a private seller...or buy at an auction. Take along a qualified mechanic or another experienced O/O to look at whats up for sale.

The last outfit I was leased to bought several '07 Columbias for $18k each last winter...

You had better get acquainted with tools if you own your own truck... no one can afford $100.00/hr for repairs and stay in business for long. I don't fix everything on my truck but I just repaired $29k of crash damage for $12,000.00 by doing all but the frame work and paint by myself (the last time I even painted it!).

Find a good, small outfit to work for that pays on a % contract not a cheap-to-you mileage deal. My lease gives me 97% of the gross revenue PLUS fuel surcharge. That's hard to beat. I DO pay my own liability and cargo but, for an extra $3500.00 /yr, it sure is worth it.

Buy a tractor that's easy to work on...sure you can save a few pennies with those aero jobs but look under the hood of a Columbia or Volvo then look at a 379, Fl Classic or W900... which would YOU sooner work on? You're lucky if you can find the engine in these 2003 and later trucks with EGR and now with the new emissions you can't even service anything without special tools and equipment.

Find a good, old solid '01 and earlier pre-emission truck with a hood...

There's my opinion... you mileage may vary.
