Well Stepping into grad 3, man its been a rough road, im about trip planned out, but i know it for a good reason. Very happy with the company so far. A few hickups when it came to getting me home for drill weekend, but they pulled it off. Starting to get use tho the way the truck runs and how it reacts to my input. I just hope they won't yank it it just yet. It been a few months since my last post, finally thought about it while I'm on home time.

Good luck, and please keep doing a trip plan, nothing as elaborate as stevens requires, but you will find it makes you days so much easier in the long run.

Ask lots of questions of the recruiter, until your questions are answered. As far as how long you have to stay if you go to their school I have no idea...I paid for my own school and stevens is paying me $25 per week until the tuition is paid off to me or until I am no longer employed by Stevens.

Stevens has lots of policies, above and beyond DOT.

I have taken NO crap from Stevens, I have had a learning curve to complete, and to prove myself before I started getting the "good" loads, instead of waiting around to be loaded, and then to be dispatched.

It really is more about your attitude, and ability to learn than it is about Stevens.

I had week 29 all typed out, hit submit, by my wifi connection failed again, and I lost it,,

so maybe later when I have a better connection...

Got to stop parking in these out of the way places, where the air card is super slow also, and the wifi connections are iffy...

    July 26 to aug 1

    Miles ran 2559

    Miles paid 2087

Miles transfloed yet to be paid...0
    will transflo on Monday

Woke up early in Laramie Wy to a cool morning...56 degrees, good sleeping weather. I love Home. Headed down to Denver for my 8 am delivery, arrived just after 7am parked, checked in and waited, and waited, finally at noon, I am assigned a door...waited some more, at 3:30 pm, I am empty, bills are returned, and I am ready to head over to the TA to park if there is a spot. 5 1/2 hours detention pay, helps off set the low mileage day.

On my 1.5 mile trip to the TA, QC beeps, load assignment...Holcomb KS to Pembroke NH...good miles, but DLD is Thursday 2am...No parking at TA, and I have enough hours to make Limon Co so I head east on I70...

Tuesday morning send in my Daily check call, and get a message to head to the shipper, they need the trailer...I am on my way, any chance of a more productive load? Answer, my load will be ready Wednesday morning.
Get to Holcomb, drop the trailer, the blond guard is such a joy to deal with, sure wish I could find her attitude adjustment screw.

Bobtail over to the Wal mart in garden city, restock the truck, get a hotel room, for a good nights sleep and shower. Have a good dinner.

Call Holcomb Tyson on wednesday morning at 8am and my load is ready.....Eat breakfast, go pick up the trailer, one bad tire, and head east to get the tire replaced. Have a nice quiet drive, and arrive on Saturday afternoon, at a former flying J affiliate...The parking lot is almost empty, and signs posted, no over night parking...I walk in and ask the clerk, she is very friendly, and asks how long I plan on staying..."only until my 4 am delivery" then no problem, have a pleasant night.

Get up at 2:30 AM, go inside to grab my cup of coffee (a 32 oz loves cup), and the local cop talking to the clerk, says, "that is a big cup of coffee." "yep", I answer, "need it for my delivery over at affiliated." "have a safe trip driver"....

Quick place to deliver to, checked in at 3am, backed into door, at 5:30am I am empty. already have a preplanned load, from Londonderry NH to elkton MD, with stops in bridgeport NJ, and Sysco Philly.

Head down the road 30 miles to yogurt plant, check in at 8am for my 10am appt, back into the door, and am loaded by noon. Plan is to make bordentown NJ for the day...Traffic is extreme, so I stop at the pilot in conn, just north of the Big Apple. No sense in wasting the log book driving 10 miles per hour...will just have to get up early, fly through the City, and make my 8am and 10 am appointments...then head over to elkton, fit in an 8 hour sleeper berth, then over to Burris for my 9pm appt.

I am enjoying life again with Stevens...I am given loads that I can deliver with my hours, and am pre planned onto my next load before I am empty. Even with the 8 + hours at Kroger in denver, I was given a load within minutes of my empty call. My original pre-plan was cancelled. Also a Holcomb load. Knowing where I am going after being empty, makes for an efficient use of my hours. I can deliver, and pick up in the same day.

No more waiting on another truck to arrive, hours after I was told they would be there...no more miscomunication, by a DM who is in a hurry to get to the next repower before she looses it. I can plan out my trip, stop at good places to eat, or find new ones, and enjoy my time on the road, instead of the constant waiting for information and other people.

I took the bus down to Stevens on July 23rd, got there the 24th. All was going good until I was put on med hold. That held me up three days and I couldn't even sit in a truck in the yard to observe. That sucked. They told us not to lie on our med exam paperwork and I didn't and telling the truth got me in trouble. Finally got cleared after three days and had to make the days up. Did my road eval. on the following Friday. That really sucked. Got into an 8 speed, never drove an 8 speed and didn't know the shifting pattern. Long story short I was yelled and screamed at. Before that, Bill Chaney came into the class and talked about policies and crashes and we watched crash videos. That hit home with me because I, my girlfriend, and her son got into a bad accident on I-75 this past winter and if you're from Michigan you know the winters are bad here. Not a single semi hit us and we were surrounded by them including 4 wheelers. If I could thank those drivers that were behind us I would have. Back to the road eval. Got out of the truck and realized this is not for me. I can't be a lifesaver on the road for everyone else including myself. Hauling an 80,000 lb. vehicle, saving lives and doing your job is a HUGE responsibility. One mistake and its all over and I just couldn't take that chance. I didn't have the confidence and wasn't comfortable knowing that in my heart. I didn't leave because Stevens is bad, Stevens is great and all the staff and drivers are very knowledgable and there policies, regulations, and rules are solid as can be. I went to Stevens because I heard only great things about them. I made the decision on a personal level. Just wanted to give my two cents.
