Sorry I have been running hard and haven't had time to get on here.

I know about the washouts, was just stating that with it being so easy to take care of there is no reason for a driver to drop a trailer dirty. Spotless isn't expected but full of paper, wood, dirt, ect... thats my only complaint.

I've been here for three days. The first day was a physical. The was six of us. One was sent away because of a hernia. The second day was the driving test. One guy said his school only taught him how to straight back and off set back. Needless to say he didn't back well enough. The third hit a curb.

I feel bad for these guys, there are good guys but I guess that's how life is. They can re-apply in six months or apply at other companies.

Today was classroom all day. (Peoplenet, logs, safety features of the truck, Tri-pack.)

Three of us left. One has had prior trucking experience. He will get his own truck at the end of the week. Me and the other guy will be off with a trainer for five or six weeks. I think he is scheduled to meet his trainer tomorrow and I'll be set up with mine on Friday. I'll keep up to date postings for anyone interested.

The recruiter trainer said this is a great company with a family oriented feel to it. He said the owner of the company wears jeans and talks to everyone as an equal. He also said the owner gets out and drives when he can and even will meet you at a receiver to make sure they are treating you well. (Of course he doesn't tell them who he is)
So far I'm very happy with my decision to come here. Good equipment. All of the trucks have APU or Tri-pack.

I was in the yard when u guys were doing the driving test. I had just delivered to the same building that you did orientation. Saw one Guy struggling to back in to the warehouse. I was only there long enough to drop my mt, shower and grab a load out to L.A.

As the wife of a trucker for WEL, some of these truckers are tripping. WEL will be totally elog by the end of the year. $1100 consistently a week....poppycock. My husband averages 500 a week if he is lucky and at .38 a mile. Average of 2200-2400 miles a paycheck not 3000. Now I am talking paycheck not miles per week.....huge difference for this company. The main problem with this company is the requirement of turning in all paperwork before getting paid for the miles driven. FedEX (at your expense no reimbursement) or get paperwork to terminal (if you can) before Friday (prior to holidays) or Monday normally. Miles vary considerably. No consistency. Too many regional miles for a long haul driver. Too much elbowing dm for consistency. They have had a huge turnover this year. Reasons include e-log and their new paperwork policy. You do not get paid for miles driven unless you get to a terminal or Fed Ex, not always possible.

I was avidly looking into WEL as a place to work....the fact that they pay .12 CPM (I think)as Perdiem, so it is not reflected in the paycheck (it is untaxed, so it is good in the short term, but it will help to low-ball your earnings calculations for unemployment, disability, social security, and unemployment...(I guess it does help make sure guys have something to live on if they have an EX and owe child support or alimony....not sure if you get this .12CPM as a separate check/deposit like I did at my previous job, or if it is one check, just the entire thing is not taxed).
I was told by a few folks that if you do the calculations right, for wait time, unloading in some locations, you can make good extra $$ beyond the per-mile rate.
What does you hubby think of the company otherwise?
Good equipment? (I think I read somewhere most of the trucks have Tri-packs)
IS he stuck in one region of the country? Dispatchers Ok?
Any info on average day length...I know running a reefer is not easy, since there is so many live loads, and it takes real planning to maximize you miles...what does he think about life working with WEL other than the $$. Maybe things will improve soon, since they may be abusing him a bit, kinda making him pay his due's.
    Good Luck!!

Per diem is .10 not .12 and it is not a separate check. Hubby thinks all trucking companeis are alike. He has worked for Veriha and Crete also. Veriha was the best of the three but they fired him for a bogus speeding ticket, dismissed as he said it would be but they said if he got the ticket dismissed they would hire him back in a second. Says a lot about that company. Crete, he sat more than he ran. He loves the equipment and yes they have tripacks in all the trucks. He goes to Florida a lot from Wisconsin. Is in California right now, but those long runs rarely show up on one check because of their paperwork requirements. He knew his dispatcher previously from his personal life so she works hard for him but she is at the mercy of the planner. The planners are the real problem. Chris the driver liasion is always on their backs so they are not motivated to get the long haul drivers, long haul loads versus regional loads. Most days are 14 hours, with elog, you always know how much time you have left. If you tend to cheat on your logs, WEL is not the company for you....they heavily monitor the elog. And everyone will be elog by the end of the year. He has been there 5 years so he is way past paying his dues. Runs in cycles and WEL is all about the bottom dollar as most companies are. His checks this year have been as low as $200 and high as $1100 once. You do get paid for multiple deliveries on one load but that is offset by less miles since multiple deliveries are usually in the same area.

Hubby's check Friday: $5.41....yes $5.41 after taxes and a $60 advance. Two weeks ago.....2800 miles......last week 500 miles.....beware. Hubby will be looking elsewhere.

OK, I gotta ask. How come he only got 500 miles? I have an app. pending with this company so before I jump in the pond I'd like to know how deep the water is. Most of the post's for this company seem to be on the positive side and money s being made.
